Respiratory Therapist Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a respiratory therapist job in Chicago?
Target Chicago's dense hospital corridor along the Near West Side Medical District and the Streeterville academic medical centers, where demand for respiratory therapists is highest. Large health systems, Level I trauma centers, and long-term acute care hospitals do the most consistent hiring. Candidates with experience in mechanical ventilation, pulmonary rehabilitation, or neonatal care have a clear edge in Chicago's competitive clinical market.
Which companies hire respiratory therapists in Chicago?
Employers hiring respiratory therapists in Chicago right now include UChicago Medicine, Resurrection Medical Center, and Rush University Medical Center, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Chicago's hiring landscape is driven largely by academic medical centers, safety-net hospitals, and specialty care networks concentrated in the city's medical districts.
Are there remote respiratory therapist jobs in Chicago?
Yes, but they are rare since most respiratory therapist work is hands-on and bedside. About 0% of respiratory therapist openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which is low relative to office-based roles. The remote-eligible share typically covers utilization review, telehealth respiratory consulting, and clinical documentation positions rather than direct patient care.
How can I get a respiratory therapist job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is landing a registered respiratory therapist role at a community hospital or long-term acute care facility on the city's South or West sides, where competition is lower than at flagship academic centers. Entry-level candidates benefit from completing clinical rotations at Chicago-area programs and targeting roles labeled respiratory therapist I or therapist trainee. Neonatal or pediatric rotation experience is a strong differentiator for roles at Chicago's children's hospitals.
Which industries hire the most respiratory therapists in Chicago?
Chicago respiratory therapist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Chicago's position as a regional referral hub for complex pulmonary and critical care cases drives consistent demand across those sectors.
