Security Researcher Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security researcher in Delaware?
Delaware does not require a state-issued license to work as a security researcher, so the path runs through education and industry credentials. Most Delaware employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or information systems, combined with certifications like OSCP, CEH, or GIAC credentials. Candidates targeting defense contractors in the Wilmington area should pursue a federal security clearance early, as it significantly broadens the pool of roles available.
How much do security researchers make in Delaware?
Security researchers in Delaware earn a median of about $137,030 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,500 for the lowest 10% to over $184,990 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security researchers in Delaware?
Employers hiring security researchers in Delaware right now include M&T Bank, JPMorganChase, and CSC, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's dense concentration of financial institutions, defense contractors, and pharmaceutical companies makes it one of the more consistent mid-Atlantic markets for security research talent.
Which Delaware cities have the most security researcher jobs?
Wilmington, Dover, and Newark hold the most security researcher openings in Delaware. Wilmington anchors the market due to its large financial services and corporate headquarters base, while Newark draws openings tied to the University of Delaware's research partnerships and nearby defense-sector employers along the I-95 corridor.
Are there remote security researcher jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than most fields. Security research is largely analytical and tool-driven work that translates well to remote environments. About 71% of security researcher openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly the role has shifted toward distributed teams. Threat intelligence, malware analysis, and code review roles tend to be the most remote-accessible, while red-team engagements may require periodic on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a security researcher in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a security operations or IT analyst role at one of Delaware's large financial institutions or defense contractors, then building toward research responsibilities. DuPont and Incyte have brought on associate security analysts from cybersecurity degree programs at the University of Delaware and Wilmington University. Building a portfolio of documented CTF results, bug bounty submissions, or GitHub projects strengthens applications considerably when formal experience is limited.
Where can I find and apply to security researcher jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to security researcher jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Wilmington, Newark, and the broader state. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employer through each listing.
