Field Application Scientist Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field application scientist in Delaware?
A bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related life science is the standard starting point, and many Delaware employers prefer a master's degree for senior roles. Delaware does not require a state-issued license specifically for field application scientists. The hiring path typically runs through laboratory research or applications support experience, often gained at one of Delaware's pharmaceutical, diagnostics, or specialty chemical employers, followed by a move into a customer-facing technical role.
How much do field application scientists make in Delaware?
Field application scientists in Delaware earn a median of about $167,200 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $132,000 for the lowest 10% to over $203,690 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire field application scientists in Delaware?
Employers hiring field application scientists in Delaware right now include AMETEK, Citi, and Solenis, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of pharmaceutical and life sciences headquarters in the New Castle County corridor means many of these openings support regional accounts across the Mid-Atlantic.
Which Delaware cities have the most field application scientist jobs?
Wilmington, Newark, and Dover have the most field application scientist openings in Delaware. Wilmington and Newark anchor the majority of postings because Delaware's pharmaceutical headquarters, biotech research facilities, and university-affiliated labs are clustered in New Castle County, while smaller suburban locations often appear because large employers maintain satellite offices or distribution hubs there.
Are there remote field application scientist jobs in Delaware?
Yes, but they're limited. Field application scientists typically need to visit customer sites, install instruments, and deliver on-site training, which keeps most roles largely field-based. About 43% of field application scientist openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. The portions of the role most suited to remote work are pre-sales consultations, virtual product training sessions, and data analysis support.
How can I get hired as a field application scientist in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a bench research or applications support role into a junior field position. Delaware's pharmaceutical and diagnostics employers regularly hire recent graduates with strong laboratory skills into applications specialist or technical support associate roles that transition into field work. Gaining hands-on experience with instrumentation platforms used by Wilmington-area biotech companies, and completing vendor-run certification programs for specific instrument lines, gives candidates a concrete edge over others with only academic backgrounds.
Where can I find and apply to field application scientist jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to field application scientist jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current Delaware openings. Search the listings, identify roles that match your background and preferred territory, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
