Senior Principal Data Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior principal data engineer in Texas?
Senior principal data engineer roles in Texas require no state-issued license or registration, so the path runs through technical depth and demonstrated leadership. Most candidates hold a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a quantitative discipline, then build expertise in cloud platforms, distributed systems, and data architecture. Texas employers typically expect candidates to show a history of owning platform-level decisions and mentoring engineers before promoting or hiring at the senior principal level.
How much do senior principal data engineers make in Texas?
Senior principal data engineers in Texas earn a median of about $151,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $92,890 for the lowest 10% to over $200,390 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior principal data engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring senior principal data engineers in Texas right now include CBRE, Dell Technologies, and Equinix, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large financial services headquarters, energy majors, and enterprise technology campuses consistently generate the deepest demand for senior principal-level data talent in the state.
Which Texas cities have the most senior principal data engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Plano have the most senior principal data engineer openings in Texas. Austin's dense technology and cloud-native company base drives strong demand there, while Dallas attracts hiring from financial services and telecommunications headquarters, and Houston's energy sector and health systems anchor demand in that metro.
Are there remote senior principal data engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields, since senior principal data engineering work is primarily analytical, architectural, and collaborative rather than hands-on or site-dependent. About 17% of senior principal data engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how widely distributed data teams have become. Architecture reviews, pipeline design, and cross-team governance work are the functions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a senior principal data engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior or mid-level data engineer role at a Texas employer that promotes from within, such as large Dallas financial institutions, Austin-area technology companies, or Houston energy firms with established analytics teams. Building a portfolio of public data pipeline projects or contributing to open-source tools demonstrates practical skills before a formal title exists. An associate-level cloud certification, such as AWS or Azure, gives candidates an edge when applying for entry data engineering positions that can grow toward the senior principal level.
Where can I find and apply to senior principal data engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to senior principal data engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and metros. Search the listings for roles that match your background, experience level, and preferred location or remote arrangement, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
