Entry Level Senior Systems Administrator Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level senior systems administrator job?
Employers hiring at the entry level look for hands-on evidence of systems skills, so build a homelab, earn vendor certifications like CompTIA Server+, Microsoft AZ-900, or VMware VCP, and document what you built and why. Internship experience or a capstone project demonstrating Windows Server, Linux administration, or virtualization gives your application a concrete edge over candidates with credentials alone.
Which companies hire entry level senior systems administrators?
Companies hiring entry level senior systems administrators right now include CommonSpirit Health, Unisys, and Raytheon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Hiring covers large enterprises with structured IT rotational programs, mid-size technology firms, and managed service providers that regularly bring on junior administrators to grow into senior responsibilities.
Are there remote entry level senior systems administrator jobs?
Yes, though on-site roles still dominate at the entry level because hands-on infrastructure work often requires a physical presence. About 13% of entry level senior systems administrator openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, so filtering by work setting when you search helps you find the arrangement that fits your situation.
Are these new grad senior systems administrator jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior roles alongside other entry level postings. A new-grad-friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship work or a homelab portfolio in place of full-time history, and avoids requiring years of specialized enterprise tool experience that a recent graduate could not realistically have acquired yet.
Which industries hire the most entry level senior systems administrators?
Entry Level senior systems administrator roles concentrate in Education, Government & Public Sector, and Science & Research, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they maintain large on-premise and hybrid infrastructure footprints that require consistent staffing across all experience tiers, including candidates just entering the field.
