Pay Range: $17.31 - 23.31 per hour
Placement on the pay scale is commensurate with experience and qualifications
Shifts available: 6 pm - 4 am, rotating weekends.
POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
In two person teams, the Crisis Support Specialist responds with a licensed Clinician to crisis scenes in the community. This position gathers collateral data at the scene. The worker can also provide transportation for clients to/from community sites. All job functions are performed under the supervision of the Crisis Services Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- In collaboration with the Crisis Clinician, gathers collateral data at the scene to help resolve crisis within the community.
- Accompanies clinician health officers in pre-hospital screening with clients in the community.
- Works with client’s primary psychiatrist, case manager and/or counselor.
- Manages the care of clients in consultation with the Crisis Clinician, Team Leader, client’s primary case manager, counselor and doctor. Makes phone calls and coordinates services.
- Provides one-on-one assistance to clients and significant others or families, monitors behavior and mental status of clients at the crisis scene, and documents appropriate services in client charts.
- Answers the Hotline, gathers collateral information and provides information and referrals to community services.
- Transports clients to and from community sites as needed.
- Works flexibly with other team members.
- Attends agency and unit meetings, completes reports (e.g. contact sheets, shift reports, crisis alerts, etc.), and performing all necessary chart and telephone documentation in a timely manner.
- Ensures competence and annual certification in the following areas: CPR and First Aid, and Crisis Intervention.
- Utilizes respectful, trauma-informed language in all aspects of the job.
- Collaborates with treatment team to support techniques that are client-first and include trust and respect.
- Promotes and support Trauma Informed Care implementation and initiatives within the organization.
- Uses the Trauma Informed Care approach to work collaboratively with clients and other team members (internal and external) to help support clients in their treatment and recovery.
- Must be able to react to change and stress productively and to handle other related tasks as assigned.
- Must be able to maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Must be able to get along with others and work as a team.
- Must exhibit the knowledge, skills, abilities, and minimum requirements listed in this Position Description.
- Must be able to follow and conform to the treatment plan of the clients on the residential unit.
- Other related duties as instructed by the team leaders.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- In order to perform the essential functions of this job, after an orientation period, the employee must possess the following: a working knowledge of Riveon Mental Health and Recovery Policy and Procedures, including sensitivity and adherence to clients’ rights, confidentiality, and health and safety issues; good interpersonal skills in order to interact efficiently with clients, doctors, other clinicians, and in dealing with the public on the hot line calls; the ability to assess clients’ strengths, needs, and individual situations; knowledge of mental illness and psychotropic medications; must have a working familiarity with treatment plans.
- Must be able to work independently and to follow directions of various team leaders and shift supervisors.
- Must exhibit sensitivity to different cultures.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- The majority of the time is spent in the community.
- The individual will have a large amount of client contact and must have excellent language and speaking skills.
- The individual may also spend a portion of their time on the phone.
- This individual may periodically be required to lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to physically interact with client and others in emergency situations to prevent harm to client and others.
- The individual in this position must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Due to the computer work this individual must be able to sit for extended periods of time and operate required equipment.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's degree in a related field and experience in mental health is preferred, along with good interpersonal skills and oral/ written communication. Prior work experience, education and training in lieu of the degree will be considered.
- The necessity for travel in this job requires that the employee possess a valid Ohio driver’s license with less than 6 points in a 36-month period, have proof of adequate personal automobile insurance, and use of a personal vehicle.
- Must be able to work differing shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Must have favorable references and/or evaluations.
- Candidates with educational backgrounds and training in trauma-informed and/or trauma-specific services, a plus.
