Entry Level Software Developer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level software developer job?
Entry level software developer roles typically look for demonstrated ability over years on the job. A portfolio of personal or academic projects, a completed internship, or open-source contributions can all substitute for a long work history. Employers at this level want to see that you can write clean code, collaborate on a team, and learn quickly. Bootcamp graduates and self-taught candidates compete well when their GitHub shows recent, working projects.
Which companies hire entry level software developers?
Companies hiring entry level software developers right now include Google, Amazon, and Amazon Web Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, from early-stage startups building their first engineering teams to large enterprises running structured new grad programs.
Are there remote entry level software developer jobs?
Yes, though availability varies by employer and tech stack. About 25% of entry level software developer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which gives new developers flexibility in where they start their careers. Fully on-site roles are still common, particularly at companies that prioritize mentorship and in-person onboarding for junior hires.
Are these new grad software developer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior roles alongside other entry level postings. A new grad-friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship work or a portfolio in place of full-time history, and does not require prior professional employment. If a listing mentions degree requirements but no minimum years of experience, it is generally open to new grads.
Which industries hire the most entry level software developers?
Entry Level software developer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Artificial Intelligence, and Retail, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they build or maintain software as a core part of their business, giving junior developers meaningful work and a clear path to grow their skills quickly.
