How do I get a software engineering manager job in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia's strongest hiring comes from its healthtech corridor anchored in University City, financial services firms in Center City, and a growing cluster of enterprise software companies near the Navy Yard. Candidates who stand out typically bring experience leading cross-functional engineering teams and can point to shipped products at scale. Networking through local tech meetups and Philadelphia-area engineering communities also gives applicants a real edge over remote applicants.
Which companies hire software engineering managers in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia software engineering manager roles are posted by Elsevier, RELX, and Lutron Electronics and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market includes a mix of large health systems, regional financial institutions, and fast-growing software companies that have expanded their Philadelphia engineering offices in recent years.
Are there remote software engineering manager jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though fully remote roles are less common for software engineering managers since the position typically involves hands-on team leadership, in-person planning sessions, and stakeholder meetings. About 33% of software engineering manager openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common among enterprise software and healthtech employers operating out of University City and Center City offices.
How can I get a software engineering manager job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic path in Philadelphia is moving into a team lead or senior engineer role at one of the city's mid-size healthtech or fintech companies, where smaller team structures create earlier management opportunities than at large enterprises. Philadelphia's university research institutions and hospital-affiliated tech divisions also hire associate engineering managers who come up through internal promotions. Building visibility through local engineering meetups and contributing to Philadelphia-area open source or civic tech projects can accelerate that transition.
