Software QA Engineer Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software qa engineer in Kentucky?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a software qa engineer in Kentucky. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information technology, though strong candidates also come from adjacent fields. Earning a recognized certification such as ISTQB Foundation Level strengthens your application and is widely respected by Kentucky technology employers. Building a portfolio of test cases and automation scripts is often as persuasive as formal credentials.
How much do software QA engineers make in Kentucky?
Software QA engineers in Kentucky earn a median of about $79,100 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $44,290 for the lowest 10% to over $128,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software qa engineers in Kentucky?
Companies currently hiring software qa engineers in Kentucky include Progress Rail, DSV, and Marsh, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Louisville's concentration of healthcare technology and logistics companies means QA engineers with domain knowledge in those industries tend to find the broadest range of openings across the state.
Which Kentucky cities have the most software qa engineer jobs?
Louisville, Lexington, and Taylor Mill account for the most software qa engineer openings in Kentucky. Louisville drives the largest share because of its headquarters presence in health insurance, logistics, and manufacturing technology, while Lexington's university-linked tech sector and Northern Kentucky's proximity to the Cincinnati metro pull additional employer demand into those corridors.
Are there remote software qa engineer jobs in Kentucky?
Yes, and more than most fields. Software quality assurance is largely desk-based and tool-driven work that translates well to remote environments. About 25% of software qa engineer openings tied to Kentucky are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed QA teams have become. Test automation, test case management, and defect triage are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a software qa engineer in Kentucky with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a manual testing or QA analyst role, which requires less automation depth and is the hiring channel large Kentucky employers use for new graduates. Companies like Humana and regional health-tech firms in Louisville run technology associate programs that include QA rotations. Moving laterally from a business analyst, technical support, or help desk role is also a recognized path. Earning the ISTQB Foundation Level certification and submitting even a small portfolio of documented test cases gives entry-level candidates a concrete edge over applicants without either.
Where can I find and apply to software qa engineer jobs in Kentucky?
You can find and apply to software qa engineer jobs in Kentucky on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings to find roles that fit your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that match.
