Software QA Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software qa engineer in Texas?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a software qa engineer in Texas. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, though strong candidates with an associate degree and demonstrated testing skills are competitive for junior roles. Building a portfolio of automated test scripts, earning a vendor-neutral certification such as ISTQB Foundation, and completing projects that show experience with Texas-heavy tech stacks like cloud and CI/CD pipelines strengthens any application.
How much do software QA engineers make in Texas?
Software QA engineers in Texas earn a median of about $101,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,010 for the lowest 10% to over $153,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software qa engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring software qa engineers in Texas right now include Apple, Amazon, and NVIDIA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, semiconductor firms, and fintech companies means QA openings appear across a wide range of industries beyond pure software product companies.
Which Texas cities have the most software qa engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Plano have the most software qa engineer openings in Texas. Austin's dense technology startup and enterprise software ecosystem drives the highest volume, while Dallas-Fort Worth's mix of financial services headquarters and corporate tech campuses sustains strong demand, and Houston's energy-sector digital transformation and aerospace industry anchor openings in that metro.
Are there remote software qa engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 13% of software qa engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that much of the work, writing and running automated test suites, reviewing logs, and filing defect reports, requires only a laptop and access to staging environments. Roles involving hands-on hardware validation or classified defense systems are the most likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a software qa engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior QA analyst or test engineer role, which large Texas employers like Dell, Oracle, and AT&T typically staff through new-graduate hiring cycles tied to spring and fall university recruiting at schools such as UT Austin and Texas A&M. Building a GitHub portfolio with automated test scripts and contributing to open-source projects compensates for a thin resume. Adjacent roles such as technical support analyst or business systems analyst at Texas-based companies frequently serve as a stepping stone, and earning the ISTQB Foundation certification signals seriousness to hiring managers screening entry-level applications.
Where can I find and apply to software qa engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to software qa engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find a role that fits your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the employer from the listing.
