Software Systems Engineer Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software systems engineer in Delaware?
Most Delaware employers require a bachelor's degree in computer science, systems engineering, electrical engineering, or software engineering as the baseline. Delaware does not issue a state-specific license for software systems engineers, so hiring decisions turn on education, demonstrated systems integration experience, and relevant certifications such as the INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional. Defense and government contractors in the Wilmington and Dover corridors commonly require candidates to hold or be eligible for a federal security clearance before extending an offer.
How much do software systems engineers make in Delaware?
Software systems engineers in Delaware earn a median of about $133,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,620 for the lowest 10% to over $174,390 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software systems engineers in Delaware?
Delaware software systems engineer roles are posted by KBR, Hologic, and TA Instruments and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of financial technology firms in Wilmington, life sciences companies in the Route 141 corridor, and defense contractors near Dover Air Force Base means openings appear across several distinct industry clusters.
Which Delaware cities have the most software systems engineer jobs?
Wilmington, Newark, and New Castle account for the largest share of software systems engineer openings in Delaware. Wilmington leads because it is home to major financial technology and corporate headquarters, Newark draws on its proximity to the University of Delaware and a growing life sciences cluster, and Dover captures defense and government systems work tied to Dover Air Force Base and state agencies.
Are there remote software systems engineer jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 55% of software systems engineer openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based and architecture-heavy nature of the role. Systems design, requirements engineering, and integration planning tasks lend themselves well to remote work, though roles tied to secure government networks or on-site lab environments typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a software systems engineer in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior systems engineer or associate software engineer role at a Delaware defense contractor or life sciences firm, where structured onboarding programs exist for new graduates. Companies like Leidos and DuPont have historically run rotational or associate engineering programs that bring in candidates from the University of Delaware and Delaware State University. Building a portfolio of personal integration or automation projects and earning an entry-level AWS or Azure certification strengthens a candidacy considerably for candidates without professional experience.
Where can I find and apply to software systems engineer jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to software systems engineer jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current Delaware openings across defense, financial technology, life sciences, and government sectors. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employer through each listing.
