Software Developer Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software developer in Delaware?
Software development in Delaware requires no state-issued license or registration, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most employers in the Wilmington and Newark corridors expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, though a strong portfolio and relevant certifications can substitute at many firms. Delaware's proximity to Philadelphia also means candidates frequently pursue roles across that regional job market simultaneously.
How much do software developers make in Delaware?
Software developers in Delaware earn a median of about $133,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,620 for the lowest 10% to over $174,390 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software developers in Delaware?
Companies currently hiring software developers in Delaware include JPMorganChase, CVS Health, and Best Egg, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of financial institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and corporate headquarters in the Wilmington area means software developer demand is particularly strong in fintech, compliance systems, and research-facing application development.
Which Delaware cities have the most software developer jobs?
Wilmington, Newark, and Delaware account for the largest share of software developer openings in Delaware. Wilmington dominates because it is home to the state's financial and corporate services hub, where major banks, credit card companies, and holding firms maintain large technology teams, while Newark benefits from proximity to the University of Delaware and a growing cluster of biotech and enterprise software employers.
Are there remote software developer jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 41% of software developer openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how thoroughly desk-based this work is across the industry. Roles focused on backend services, cloud architecture, and data pipeline development tend to offer the most location flexibility, while positions embedded in on-site product or security teams are more likely to require in-person attendance.
How can I get hired as a software developer in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to junior developer or associate software engineer roles at Delaware's large financial institutions and corporate technology departments, which regularly onboard new graduates. Building a portfolio of deployed projects on GitHub and earning a cloud certification from AWS or Google strengthens any application. Employers such as JPMorgan Chase and CSC run structured new-grad programs, and adjacent roles in QA engineering or technical support at Delaware-based firms are a proven lateral entry point into full development work.
Where can I find and apply to software developer jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to software developer jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current Delaware openings updated in real time. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and preferences, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
