DESCRIPTION
Cloud is the new normal and our customers are interested in leveraging AWS to increase agility, improve security, reduce costs and gain global footprint.
Our customers are at the forefront of this adoption. AWS Solutions Architects help educating our customers on how to craft highly scalable, flexible, resilient, secure and cost-effective cloud architectures. As a trusted customer advocate, the solutions architect will help organizations understand advanced cloud-based solutions, and how to migrate existing workloads to the cloud. You will have the opportunity to help shape and execute a strategy to build mind share and broad use of AWS within organizations ranging from new start-ups to large enterprise customers. The ability to link technology with measurable business value is critical to a solutions architect. You should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, products, and technical challenges.
We are looking for a candidate who is comfortable at the intersection of technology and business. They will be broadly competent across many areas of technology and deep in a handful of areas. It's ok for them to be less deep in some places, but we need to feel confident that they have the fundamentals and the ability to learn complex new technologies quickly.
On the business side, we are looking for excellent communication skills. The Solutions Architect will spend most of their day interacting with customers via email, phone, WebEx, and in-person meetings. They will meet with developers, team leads, engineering directors, and CxOs. Given the large portion of customers who are self-served, interest in and ability to create one-to-many content such as reference architectures and blog posts is an important part of the role.
On the soft-skills side, we are looking for ability to moderate tone and technical depth based on audience and solid ability to pick up on non-verbal communication. Also ability to pick up on “un-said” drivers is important.
On the personal attributes side, we are looking for individuals who are passionate about technology and have the drive and capability to absorb and retain vast amounts of deep technical information continuously. People who might get easily bored in slower moving environments might do well here.

Solutions Architect Jobs in Arlington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a solutions architect job in Arlington?
The strongest path into Arlington's market runs through defense contractors, federal agencies, and managed service providers concentrated along the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor and in Pentagon City. Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, enterprise networking, or federal security frameworks like FedRAMP gives candidates a clear edge. Familiarity with government procurement cycles and cleared-work environments also helps, since a large share of Arlington's technology roles tie directly to federal clients.
Which companies hire solutions architects in Arlington?
Employers hiring solutions architects in Arlington right now include Amazon Web Services, Tria Federal, and BCMC, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Arlington's employer mix leans toward defense primes, government IT contractors, and cloud consultancies that serve federal civilian and DoD clients from offices along the Rosslyn-Ballston Metro corridor.
Are there remote solutions architect jobs in Arlington?
Yes, though fully remote roles are less common for solutions architects who work closely with federal clients or on classified infrastructure. About 45% of solutions architect openings tied to Arlington are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a post-pandemic shift toward flexible schedules. Design, pre-sales, and commercial cloud roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while positions requiring on-site access to secure facilities remain predominantly in-person.
How can I get a solutions architect job in Arlington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Arlington is a junior cloud or systems engineer role at a mid-sized IT consultancy or defense subcontractor, many of which are headquartered in the Ballston and Clarendon area. Earning a cloud certification, such as AWS Solutions Architect Associate, signals readiness to local hiring managers. Pre-sales technical associate and IT implementation analyst roles at government-facing firms also serve as common stepping stones into a full solutions architect position.
Which industries hire the most solutions architects in Arlington?
Arlington solutions architect roles concentrate in Distribution & Wholesale, Technology & Software, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Arlington's proximity to the Pentagon, federal civilian agencies, and major defense primes means the bulk of local demand flows from government-facing technology work, where solutions architects design and validate infrastructure meeting strict federal compliance and security standards.
