Tips for Your Solutions Architect Job Search
Tailor your resume to the engagement model
Solutions architect roles split between pre-sales and post-sales work. Make clear on your resume which you've done, whether you were closing deals alongside account executives or owning technical delivery after contracts were signed. Hiring managers screen for this distinction immediately.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists solutions architect openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Lead with architecture diagrams in your portfolio
Interviewers for solutions architect roles often ask you to whiteboard a system design on the spot. Bring anonymized diagrams from past projects showing your decision-making, not just outcomes. Reference them during interviews to ground abstract answers in real architecture choices.
Filter openings by cloud platform before applying
Most postings specify AWS, Azure, or GCP as the primary environment. Applying without matching platform depth wastes your time. Prioritize roles aligned to certifications you already hold, then expand outward once you're in conversations.
Quantify business impact, not just technical scope
Hiring managers for solutions architect positions care as much about revenue influenced or cost reduced as about the technology stack used. Translate every project on your resume into a business outcome, even rough figures from internal reporting, to separate yourself from purely technical candidates.
Prepare a structured technical discovery story
Interviewers frequently ask how you scope and qualify a new customer environment. Rehearse a concise story covering how you identified requirements, surfaced constraints, and recommended an architecture. Candidates who narrate a repeatable methodology stand out over those who describe one-off solutions.
Solutions Architect Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most solutions architects?
The companies hiring the most solutions architects right now include Amazon Web Services, Databricks, and NVIDIA, with the largest share of openings in California, Virginia, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Cloud platform vendors, large systems integrators, and enterprise software companies consistently account for the highest volume of postings.
How many solutions architect jobs are remote?
About 63% of solutions architect openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, making it one of the more location-flexible technical roles at the senior level. Pre-sales and cloud infrastructure sub-specializations tend to carry the highest share of fully remote options, while on-site requirements are more common in regulated industries such as defense and healthcare.
How do you become a solutions architect?
Start by building deep hands-on experience in at least one cloud platform and earning a professional-level certification to validate it. Move into roles such as cloud engineer, systems engineer, or technical consultant where you interact directly with customer or stakeholder requirements. From there, take on project scoping and architecture review responsibilities to develop the business communication skills the role demands.
Can you get hired as a solutions architect without direct experience in the role?
Yes, but you need to reframe adjacent experience convincingly. Candidates who move from cloud engineering, technical consulting, or pre-sales engineering roles are the most competitive because they already bridge technical design and stakeholder communication. Demonstrating that you've owned architecture decisions and presented them to non-technical audiences matters more than the job title you held previously.
What does the solutions architect interview process look like?
Most processes include an initial recruiter or hiring manager screen, followed by a technical discovery call where you walk through past architecture work in depth. A whiteboard or virtual system design exercise is standard, often conducted with a senior engineer or principal architect. Final rounds typically involve a panel covering both technical depth and your ability to handle ambiguous customer requirements under time pressure.
Where can I find and apply to solutions architect jobs?
You can find and apply to solutions architect jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your cloud platform experience, seniority level, and preferred industry, then apply directly to each listing from the page.
