Our Mission
Healthcare should work for patients, but it doesn't. In their time of need, they call down outdated insurance directories. Then wait on hold. Then wait weeks for the privilege of a visit. Then wait in a room solely designed for waiting. Then wait for a surprise bill. In any other consumer industry, the companies delivering such a poor customer experience would not survive. But in healthcare, patients lack market power. Which means they are expected to accept the unacceptable.
Zocdoc's mission is to give power to the patient. To do that, we've built the leading healthcare marketplace that makes it easy to find and book in-person or virtual care in all 50 states, across +200 specialties and +12k insurance plans. By giving patients the ability to see and choose, we give them power. In doing so, we can make healthcare work like every other consumer sector, where businesses compete for customers, not the other way around. In time, this will drive quality up and prices down.
We're 18 years old and the leader in our space, but we are still just getting started. If you like solving important, complex problems alongside deeply thoughtful, driven, and collaborative teammates, read on.
Your Impact on our Mission
Zocdoc's most important asset is our people. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Spend Management team, you will be the technical anchor for the platform that gives healthcare practices the confidence and control to spend on the Zocdoc Marketplace. You'll lead the architecture and development of flexible, self-service spend controls — moving providers off manual, support-mediated budget administration and onto a product they manage directly, with full visibility into their spend and ROI. This is a money-moving system, so correctness, reliability, and trust are at the heart of everything we build, directly impacting provider trust, marketplace spend, and a practice's ability to maximize their return on Zocdoc.
You'll enjoy this role if you are…
- Personally motivated by building systems where accuracy matters — where a bug isn't just a ticket, it's someone's money and their trust.
- Autonomous, urgent, and creative. You genuinely love owning a problem end-to-end, from architectural design to launch.
- Energized by turning a manual, internal process into a self-service product that customers control themselves.
- Passionate about mentorship and leveling up the engineers around you.
- A strong collaborator who can work with Product, Design, Analytics, and Sales to build a unified vision.
- The kind of person who thrives on a small, focused team with a clear, high-impact mission.
- Serious about your work, but not about yourself. Let's face it - the way things are going, you kind of need a sense of humor.
Your day to day is…
- Full ownership of the technical strategy for the self-service spend management platform.
- Architecting and writing code for key roadmap initiatives — flexible budget controls, the Budget Settings experience, and cross-channel (Marketplace + SPO) spend strategy.
- Building and fostering relationships with engineers on your team and partners in Product, Design, and Analytics to refine and execute the product vision.
- Safeguarding the accuracy and reliability of a system that moves money — spend tracking, budget enforcement, and the guardrails that keep them correct.
- Mentoring engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and 1:1 pairing.
- Working with cutting-edge GenAI tools and technology, with an eye toward future goals like spend recommendations and AI-assisted budget insights.
You'll be successful in this role if you have…
- An unrelenting desire to build more equitable, inclusive and diverse workplaces.
- You view this role as an opportunity to create positive change.
- Meaningful (2+ years) experience in .NET and AWS or equivalent cloud technology.
- *Required* The ability to integrate generative AI tools into daily workflows to automate tasks, foster innovation, and maximize productivity.
- A fundamental understanding of building and scaling business-critical back-end services, with the front-end skills to make them usable.
- A bias toward correctness and reliability, with the instinct to build observability and guardrails into money-moving systems from the start.
- The mentality of an entrepreneur/owner and a strong bias to action.
- Superb communication skills! You believe in keeping all of your stakeholders in the loop and know that multiple mediums of communication are the key to success.
- Humility. You believe in treating all people with dignity and respect, regardless of title or tenure.
Benefits:
- Flexible work environment
- Unlimited Vacation
- 100% paid employee health benefit options (including medical, dental, and vision)
- 401(k) with employer funded match
- Corporate wellness programs with Headspace and Peloton
- Sabbatical leave (for employees with 5+ years of service)
- Competitive paid parental leave and fertility/family planning reimbursement
- Cell phone reimbursement
- Employee Resource Groups and ZocClubs to promote shared community and belonging
- Great Place to Work Certified

Entry Level Staff Software Developer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level staff software developer job?
Entry level staff software developer roles go to candidates who can show working code, not just a degree. Build a portfolio with two or three complete projects on GitHub, contribute to open source if you can, and highlight any internship or co-op work. Employers at this level look for clean code habits, familiarity with version control, and the ability to collaborate on a team.
Which companies hire entry level staff software developers?
Companies hiring entry level staff software developers right now include CVS Health, Walmart, and Fortinet, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The mix covers established technology employers and fast-growing companies that actively build junior engineering pipelines and regularly onboard new graduates into staff-level development teams.
Are there remote entry level staff software developer jobs?
Yes, though fully remote openings are more competitive at the entry level than for experienced hires. About 73% of entry level staff software developer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so there are real options for candidates who need flexibility, especially at companies with distributed engineering teams.
Are these new grad staff software developer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior roles. A new-grad-friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internships or a portfolio in place of full-time history, and does not list senior-level responsibilities. If you graduated recently or are changing careers, these are the postings to focus on.
Which industries hire the most entry level staff software developers?
Entry Level staff software developer roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Technology & Software, and Retail, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors tend to run large engineering organizations with structured onboarding programs, making them more likely to hire and train candidates who are early in their careers.
