Summer Associate Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a summer associate in Montana?
Becoming a summer associate in Montana requires enrollment in an accredited law school, typically after completing your first year. Most Montana law firms and government offices recruit through on-campus interview programs or direct applications submitted in the fall. A competitive application includes a resume, writing sample, and transcript. Candidates interested in public-sector roles should also monitor postings from the Montana Department of Justice and the Office of the Montana Attorney General directly.
Which companies hire summer associates in Montana?
Montana summer associate roles are posted by Logan Health, Guest Services, and Sunshine Academy and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's legal market is regionally concentrated, so firms with offices in Billings and Helena tend to post the largest share of summer positions statewide.
Which Montana cities have the most summer associate jobs?
Paradise, Kalispell, and Laurel hold the most summer associate openings in Montana. Billings leads because it is the state's largest commercial center, anchoring most of Montana's private law firms and financial services offices, while Helena's concentration of state agencies and regulatory bodies drives consistent public-sector demand, and Missoula's legal community is supported by the University of Montana Alexander Blewett III School of Law pipeline.
How can I get hired as a summer associate in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying as a first-year law student through 1L diversity programs, which several Billings-area firms and the Montana Attorney General's office run specifically for candidates without prior law firm experience. Participating in the University of Montana's legal clinics or externship placements builds the writing sample and reference letters that compensate for a thin resume. Candidates who have worked as paralegals or legal assistants at Montana firms also move into summer associate roles more readily than those with no legal office exposure at all.
Where can I find and apply to summer associate jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to summer associate jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Montana openings in one place. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
