Surgical Dental Assistant Jobs in Vermont: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a surgical dental assistant in Vermont?
Vermont does not issue a separate state license for dental assistants, but the Vermont Board of Dental Examiners requires dental assistants performing expanded functions to hold a Certified Dental Assistant credential from the Dental Assisting National Board and complete a state-approved radiography course. Most employers in Vermont also expect a diploma or certificate from an accredited dental assisting program before hiring into surgical roles.
Which companies hire surgical dental assistants in Vermont?
Employers hiring surgical dental assistants in Vermont right now include Dartmouth Health, Brattleboro Memorial, and Encore Vet, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Vermont's oral surgery hiring is concentrated in independent specialty practices and health system dental departments anchored in the Burlington metro area.
Which Vermont cities have the most surgical dental assistant jobs?
Rutland, Windsor, and Brattleboro have the most surgical dental assistant openings in Vermont. Burlington and South Burlington dominate because the University of Vermont Medical Center and affiliated specialty clinics create concentrated demand, while smaller cities like Rutland and St. Johnsbury see openings driven by regional group practices serving rural catchment areas.
Are there remote surgical dental assistant jobs in Vermont?
Yes, but they're rare. Surgical dental assisting is a hands-on, chair-side role that requires physical presence with patients and sterile instruments, so fully remote positions almost never exist. About 0% of surgical dental assistant openings tied to Vermont are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically involve administrative or patient coordination duties rather than direct clinical work.
How can I get hired as a surgical dental assistant in Vermont with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an accredited dental assisting certificate program and targeting general practice roles before moving into surgical specialties. University of Vermont Medical Center and regional community health centers in Vermont occasionally hire dental assistant trainees or dental clinic support staff who can rotate through oral surgery. Candidates who hold their radiography certification and CDA credential have a clear edge when applying to oral surgery practices looking to develop new assistants in-house.
Where can I find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Vermont?
You can find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Vermont on Migrate Mate, which lists current Vermont openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly to the employers that interest you.
