Overview

We are looking for a Lead, Financial Process & Platform Modernization to play a key leadership role in shaping and executing the modernization of Intuit’s controllership processes, platforms, data, and ways of working. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Close, Consolidation & Process Modernization, this is a high-impact individual contributor role with significant autonomy, executive visibility, and accountability for delivering complex modernization initiatives across the controllership organization.

You will independently lead high-priority modernization initiatives spanning close, consolidation, financial reporting, and controls, from identifying and framing opportunities through solution design, implementation, adoption, and measurement of outcomes. You will bring a strong point of view on how accounting work should evolve, challenge legacy processes, and translate strategic priorities into scalable solutions that reduce manual effort, improve cycle time and quality, strengthen controls, and enable a more modern and efficient controllership organization.

You will operate at the intersection of accounting, systems, data, and technology, translating complex accounting and operational requirements into process, platform, and data designs that technology teams can execute. You will also serve as a trusted advisor to controllership leadership, synthesizing complex issues, developing clear recommendations and trade-offs, and representing modernization priorities in senior-level cross-functional forums.

This role requires deep controllership expertise, strong systems and data fluency, executive-level communication, and an AI-first, continuous-improvement mindset. You should be equally comfortable going deep on close and consolidation processes, challenging a system or data design, developing an executive recommendation, leveraging data and AI to identify better ways of working, and partnering with Finance and Technology leaders to implement future-state solutions.

Responsibilities

• 
  Lead high-impact controllership modernization initiatives from strategy through execution, identifying and prioritizing opportunities to simplify, streamline, and automate close, consolidation, financial reporting, and controls. Independently define scope, outcomes, milestones, dependencies, and success measures and remain accountable for delivering measurable improvements in cycle time, effort, quality, scalability, and risk.

• Translate complex accounting and operational requirements into scalable process, system, and data solutions, partnering directly with Accounting, Finance Systems, Technology, Data, and Engineering teams to develop requirements, evaluate alternatives, make design trade-offs, and ensure solutions meet accounting, reporting, control, and auditability requirements.

• Own major modernization workstreams within the broader controllership roadmap, bringing structure to ambiguous problems, establishing clear priorities and governance, surfacing risks and dependencies early, and driving decisions and issues to resolution with limited oversight.

• Own and continuously enhance controllership data, reporting, and performance insights, including dashboards, SLA and cycle-time models, benchmarking, and operational metrics that provide leadership with accurate, timely, and self-service visibility into performance and opportunities for improvement.

• Serve as a trusted advisor to controllership leadership on modernization priorities and decisions, developing options, data-backed recommendations, trade-offs, and clear executive narratives. Prepare and present decision-ready materials for senior leadership and governance forums and independently represent modernization initiatives in cross-functional discussions.

• Apply an AI-first lens and emerging technologies to redesign, pilot, and scale controllership workflows, including close and reconciliation activities, accounting analysis, document and contract review, process and control documentation, and narrative drafting, to reduce manual effort, accelerate analysis, and improve quality with appropriate rigor, human oversight, governance, and audit defensibility.

• Drive continuous improvement and challenge legacy ways of working, using experimentation, process analysis, performance data, and stakeholder feedback to test new approaches, capture learnings, scale what works, and retire processes or tools that no longer serve the organization.

• Build trusted relationships and influence senior stakeholders across organizational boundaries, aligning Accounting, Finance, Technology, Tax, Internal Audit, SOX, and other partners around modernization priorities, resolving competing perspectives, and driving adoption and sustained change without relying on direct authority.

Qualifications

• 
  8-10+ years of relevant experience in accounting, controllership, finance modernization, financial systems, or process improvement, with meaningful hands-on experience across financial close, consolidation, financial reporting, or related controllership processes.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA strongly preferred. MBA, CMA, or relevant technology or data credentials are a plus.

• Deep knowledge of US GAAP, financial close and consolidation processes, financial reporting, and the control environment over financial reporting, including SOX requirements. Public company, fintech, or software industry experience is strongly preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex, cross-functional modernization initiatives from problem definition and solution design through implementation, adoption, and measurement of outcomes.

• Strong systems, data, and process fluency, with the ability to engage directly and credibly with Finance Systems, Technology, Data, and Engineering teams on process, system architecture, data flows, requirements, and design trade-offs.

• Ability to translate between accounting requirements and process, system, and data design, including close mechanics, consolidation, subledger-to-general-ledger flows, reconciliations, financial reporting, and controls.

• Strong strategic and analytical capabilities, with the ability to frame ambiguous problems, assess alternatives, make thoughtful trade-offs, and develop clear, data-backed recommendations.

• Executive-level communication and presence, with the ability to synthesize complex accounting, operational, and technical matters into clear, decision-ready narratives and confidently engage with senior leaders.

• Proven ability to influence across functions, build alignment among stakeholders with differing priorities, challenge existing ways of working constructively, and drive outcomes without direct authority.

• Experience using operating metrics, SLAs, benchmarking, process analysis, and other performance measures to identify opportunities and quantify the impact of modernization efforts.

• Experience applying AI tools, automation, and emerging technologies to accounting or finance processes, with sound judgment regarding accuracy, human oversight, governance, confidentiality, and audit defensibility.

• Demonstrated ability to operate with significant autonomy, anticipate issues and decisions, manage multiple complex priorities, and consistently deliver high-quality outcomes in an ambiguous and fast-changing environment.

San Diego $156,500 - $212,000
Mountain View, CA $169,000- $229,000
