How do I get a systems engineer job in St. Louis?
The strongest entry points in St. Louis are defense contractors along the I-270 corridor, aerospace firms near Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, and healthcare technology companies clustered in Creve Coeur and Clayton. Candidates with experience in systems integration, model-based systems engineering, or enterprise infrastructure stand out locally. Networking through St. Louis' defense and aerospace community, including industry events tied to Boeing and its supply chain, gives applicants a real edge over sending cold applications.
Which companies hire systems engineers in St. Louis?
Employers hiring systems engineers in St. Louis right now include Peraton, Enterprise Mobility, and Assured Consulting Solutions, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. St. Louis draws a mix of large defense primes, regional healthcare systems, and growing tech firms in the Cortex Innovation Community, all of which maintain consistent demand for systems engineering talent.
Are there remote systems engineer jobs in St. Louis?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role: hands-on infrastructure, lab, or defense-classified positions are typically on-site, while systems architecture and enterprise IT roles often allow flexibility. About 54% of systems engineer openings tied to St. Louis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a mix across industries. Roles focused on cloud systems, IT architecture, and software-defined infrastructure tend to offer the most remote options in the St. Louis market.
How can I get a systems engineer job in St. Louis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in St. Louis is through junior systems analyst or IT support roles at local healthcare systems, regional defense subcontractors, or university-affiliated research institutions like Washington University or Saint Louis University. Many St. Louis defense firms run rotational programs that move entry-level engineers across systems disciplines. An internship or co-op with a Cortex-area tech company or a Boeing-affiliated supplier is among the most direct ways to build the local credentials hiring managers recognize.
