Systems Engineer Jobs in Raleigh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a systems engineer job in Raleigh?
The strongest entry point in Raleigh is the defense and government IT sector, where contractors around Research Triangle Park hire systems engineers continuously for integration, requirements, and testing work. Candidates with active security clearances move faster through hiring pipelines here than almost anywhere else in the state. Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering and experience on large-scale infrastructure or communications programs also gives applicants a clear edge with Raleigh employers.
Which companies hire systems engineers in Raleigh?
Companies currently hiring systems engineers in Raleigh include PROCONEX, Merz, and Qualcomm, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Raleigh draws a mix of major defense primes, federal agencies, telecom firms, and fast-growing enterprise tech companies, giving systems engineers options well beyond a single industry.
Are there remote systems engineer jobs in Raleigh?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role. Systems engineering work tied to physical infrastructure, hardware integration, or classified environments is almost always on-site, while analytical, architecture, and requirements roles are more frequently remote. About 84% of systems engineer openings tied to Raleigh are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common at software-focused employers in the North Hills and downtown corridors.
How can I get a systems engineer job in Raleigh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Raleigh is through a junior systems analyst or IT systems technician role at one of the area's many defense subcontractors or state government agencies, which regularly hire candidates with relevant degrees and sponsor clearance applications. NC State and local community college graduates with internship experience at RTP-area employers have a consistent advantage. Lateral moves from network administration, quality assurance, or IT operations are also common stepping stones into systems engineering roles here.
