Entry Level Systems Programmer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level systems programmer job?
Focus on demonstrating hands-on ability: build personal projects that show low-level programming, operating system concepts, or embedded work, and highlight any internship or coursework in C, C++, or assembly. Employers at this level prioritize candidates who understand memory management and system architecture. Bootcamp graduates and self-taught candidates can compete by presenting a clear, documented portfolio and emphasizing problem-solving in technical interviews.
Which companies hire entry level systems programmers?
Companies hiring entry level systems programmers right now include Citi, Jobot, and Jack Henry & Associates, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of large technology firms, defense contractors, semiconductor companies, and enterprise software organizations that regularly onboard junior talent into systems-focused teams.
Are there remote entry level systems programmer jobs?
Yes, though remote availability at the entry level is more limited than at senior levels. About 8% of entry level systems programmer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the remainder being on-site roles where teams prefer junior candidates to work closely with senior engineers during onboarding.
Are these new grad systems programmer jobs?
Yes, the listings on this page include new grad, recent graduate, and junior systems programmer roles. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience and accepts internships, academic projects, or a strong portfolio in place of full-time work history. Look for language like "entry level," "new grad welcome," or "0 to 2 years" in the job description as a reliable signal.
Which industries hire the most entry level systems programmers?
Entry Level systems programmer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Education, and Banking & Financial Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive junior hiring because they depend on close-to-hardware development, real-time systems, and performance-critical software that requires dedicated systems programming expertise from the ground up.
