Job Description:
The Technical Writer is responsible for developing, editing, and maintaining accurate and user-friendly product documentation that supports AAON’s HVAC systems and components. This role ensures that technical content is clear, consistent, and aligned with company standards. The ideal candidate will collaborate across departments to gather information and deliver high-quality documentation for internal and external use. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects are essential for success. The Technical Writer plays a key role in ensuring that AAON’s product documentation is accurate, accessible, and up to date. This includes creating manuals, guides, and technical content that support product understanding and usability.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, installation instructions, and product guides
- Organize and improve the structure and accessibility of technical content and supporting assets
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and marketing teams to gather accurate and timely information
- Develop communication materials for digital platforms, including website and social media
- Create product labels and technical sheets as requested by Engineering or Production
- Edit and maintain pricing sheets and controls-related documentation
- Follow established procedures to proofread and revise existing documentation
- Manage production timelines to align with product updates and new releases
- Support cross-departmental initiatives by providing clear and consistent written content
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and experience in technical writing, particularly in the development of user manuals, installation instructions, and technical guides.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with documentation tools and content management systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Workiva, and database management software
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of technical concepts and ability to translate them into user-friendly content
