TN Visa Cleaning Jobs
Cleaning roles don't appear on the TN visa's qualifying occupation list, which means Canadian and Mexican professionals can't obtain TN sponsorship for housekeeping, janitorial, or commercial cleaning positions. These jobs fall outside the USMCA professional category requirements, so a different visa pathway would apply.

Explore adjacent roles that do qualify
Industrial hygienists and environmental health specialists are TN-eligible categories that overlap with cleaning operations. If your credentials support a professional-level role, you may qualify under a different occupational designation.
Request a formal job title review from your employer
Ask the hiring manager whether the posted role can be structured as a facility management or industrial hygiene position. A misclassified job title is the most common reason TN petitions for operations roles get refused.
Document any specialized training or certifications you hold
Certifications in hazardous materials handling, infection control, or environmental services strengthen an argument that your role crosses into a TN-qualifying professional category rather than general labor.
Use Migrate Mate to filter roles that match TN categories
Search Migrate Mate to find U.S. employers actively sponsoring TN visas for operations and facilities roles, so you're only targeting positions that map to a qualifying occupation from the start.
Prepare a detailed support letter before any border crossing
If you believe your cleaning or facilities role qualifies under an adjacent TN category, your employer's support letter must precisely describe duties, required credentials, and how the position meets USCIS specialty criteria.

Find Cleaning JobsCleaning TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the TN visa cover cleaning jobs for Canadian and Mexican workers?
No. Cleaning, janitorial, and housekeeping positions are not included in the USMCA's list of TN-eligible occupations. The TN visa requires that a role fall within a specific professional category. General cleaning work doesn't meet that threshold, regardless of whether the employer is willing to sponsor. You'd need to pursue a different visa pathway for these roles.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for cleaning or facilities roles?
Neither visa is a straightforward fit for standard cleaning positions. The H-1B requires a specialty occupation with a bachelor's degree requirement, and the TN limits eligibility to a defined occupation list. The TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadians, making it faster when a role qualifies, but cleaning roles typically don't qualify under either category without significant job-title restructuring.
Are there any cleaning-adjacent roles that qualify for TN sponsorship?
Yes. Industrial hygienists, environmental health specialists, and certain facility management professionals are recognized TN categories. If your background includes certification or a degree in occupational health or environmental science, a role that involves cleaning operations at a professional or supervisory level may qualify under one of these adjacent designations.
Can I use Migrate Mate to find TN-sponsored jobs in cleaning or facilities management?
Migrate Mate lists U.S. employers offering TN visa sponsorship across multiple occupational categories, including operations and facilities roles. While standard cleaning jobs fall outside TN eligibility, you can use Migrate Mate to identify employers open to sponsoring adjacent professional roles that align with your credentials and experience in the field.
What happens if I apply for TN status in a cleaning role and get refused at the border?
CBP officers have authority to deny TN admission on the spot if the role doesn't match a qualifying occupation. A refusal is typically noted in your immigration record. For Canadian citizens this means returning home without entry. For Mexican applicants who applied through a consulate, the denial occurs before travel. Either way, the application fee is not refunded and you'd need to reapply under a qualifying role.
