Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Fundraising Director
Align your degree to the role description
TN status for fundraising roles hinges on a direct match between your degree field and the job duties. A degree in communications or business administration supports a Fundraising Director petition more cleanly than an unrelated field, even with years of experience.
Target nonprofits with established HR infrastructure
Large nonprofits, hospital foundations, and university development offices regularly sponsor TN workers and have HR teams that understand the documentation requirements. Smaller organizations often decline sponsorship simply because they've never processed TN paperwork before.
Request a support letter that names your specialty
Your employer's TN support letter must explicitly state that the role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific professional field. Generic offer letters citing 'leadership skills' or 'fundraising experience' give CBP officers grounds to question whether the position qualifies as a specialty occupation.
Search TN-verified fundraising roles through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find Fundraising Director openings already filtered for TN visa sponsorship eligibility, so you're not cold-applying to roles where employers have no capacity or intention to support your status.
Understand Mexican nationals need consular appointment timing
Mexican citizens cannot apply at a port of entry and must schedule a consular interview through a U.S. embassy or consulate in Mexico. Factor in appointment wait times when negotiating your start date with a prospective employer.
Prepare for CBP questions about fundraising as a profession
Canadian applicants processed at the border should expect CBP officers to probe whether the role genuinely requires a degree-level professional. Bring your diploma, transcripts, and a concise written summary connecting your academic background to the specific duties in your offer letter.

Find Fundraising Director JobsFundraising Director TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Fundraising Director role actually qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, but the classification depends on how the role is structured. TN status requires that the position be a specialty occupation needing a specific bachelor's degree. A Fundraising Director role tied to a degree in public relations, business administration, or nonprofit management qualifies. A role framed around general management or leadership without a degree-specific requirement may not survive scrutiny at the port of entry or consulate.
How does TN visa sponsorship for Fundraising Directors compare to H-1B?
TN is faster and more predictable for this role. There's no lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and Canadian applicants can receive approval at the border the same day. H-1B requires employer sponsorship through a lottery with a March registration window and an October start date at the earliest. For a qualified Canadian or Mexican professional with an offer in hand, TN is the more practical path in almost every scenario.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer needs to provide a detailed support letter on company letterhead stating your job title, your specific duties, the professional category under which the TN is sought, your required qualifications, and your compensation. The letter must demonstrate that the role requires a relevant bachelor's degree. You'll pair this with your diploma, transcripts, and the job offer itself. CBP or the consular officer reviews the full package together.
How can I find Fundraising Director jobs that already support TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for TN visa sponsorship, so you can focus your search on employers already prepared to support your status. This matters for Fundraising Director roles because many nonprofits and development offices have never processed a TN petition and may decline sponsorship out of unfamiliarity rather than unwillingness, even when the role clearly qualifies.
Can I renew my TN visa if I stay with the same nonprofit employer?
Yes. TN status is granted in two-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely as long as you maintain a qualifying job offer and the role continues to meet TN criteria. For Canadian citizens, renewals are processed at the border. Mexican nationals renew through the consulate. There's no limit on the number of renewals, which makes TN a viable long-term status for Fundraising Directors who aren't pursuing permanent residency immediately.
