Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Senior Director Of Business Development
Frame your credentials around Management Consultant
TN visa approval for this role hinges on mapping your degree and experience to the Management Consultant category. A business degree combined with a track record of advising on revenue strategy or market expansion strengthens the classification argument significantly.
Target companies with cross-border commercial operations
Employers with active U.S.-Canada or U.S.-Mexico business units already understand TN visa mechanics and are likelier to move quickly on sponsorship. Search specifically for firms with named USMCA trade relationships or multinational development mandates in their job postings.
Ask about employer visa sponsorship experience before accepting
Before signing any offer letter, confirm the employer will prepare a support letter for your TN visa application. Some companies at this seniority level assume you'll handle your own documentation, which isn't how TN sponsorship works for employees. Your employer should be ready to document your role and qualifications as part of the process.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified TN-sponsoring employers
Searching broadly wastes time on employers unfamiliar with visa sponsorship for senior roles. Migrate Mate surfaces companies with recent visa filings and experience sponsoring work visas for business development positions, so your outreach targets decision-makers already open to the process.
Prepare a role-specific support letter from your employer
CBP officers evaluating TN petitions at the border need a detailed employer support letter naming your title, duties, and how they meet Management Consultant criteria. Generic offer letters get challenged far more often than letters drafted specifically for TN adjudication.
Mexican applicants should request consular appointment early
Unlike Canadians who can present at a port of entry, Mexican citizens apply through a U.S. consulate and face appointment wait times that vary by location and season. Build at least six to eight weeks into your start date timeline to avoid gaps.

Find Senior Director Of Business Development JobsSenior Director Of Business Development TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Director of Business Development role qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, but the classification depends on how the role is framed. CBP places business development directors under the Management Consultant category, which requires that the position involves advising on strategic or organizational matters rather than executing operational tasks. Your employer's support letter must describe duties in those terms, and your degree should align with business, economics, or a related field.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for this role?
TN is faster and more predictable for Canadian and Mexican professionals at the director level. There's no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and approval can happen the same day at a port of entry. H-1B requires lottery selection, a months-long USCIS adjudication process, and starts only on October 1. For senior business development roles with an employer already familiar with TN filings, TN is the practical first choice.
What documents do I need to bring to the border for TN approval as a Canadian?
You'll need a valid Canadian passport, a detailed employer support letter, your degree or professional credentials, and evidence that the role qualifies as Management Consultant work. CBP officers can and do ask detailed questions about job duties at this level, so bring any supporting materials that clarify the strategic scope of your responsibilities, not just the title.
Where can I find Senior Director of Business Development jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters job listings by TN visa sponsorship eligibility, so you're not spending time on applications at companies that lack experience with work visa sponsorship. Targeting employers with recent visa filings demonstrates they're familiar with the sponsorship process, which can make the offer stage and support letter preparation significantly smoother.
Can I switch employers on a TN visa if I get a better offer?
Yes. TN status is employer-specific, so changing jobs requires a new TN petition tied to your new employer. Canadians can present at the border with updated documentation on the day they start. Mexican citizens need a new consular appointment and visa stamp before beginning work. There's no grace period that permits employment with the new company before the new TN is approved.
