Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Business Development
Match your degree to the role description
TN classification for Business Development depends on fitting the Management Consultant category. Your degree in business, economics, or a related field must align with the specific duties in your offer letter, not just the job title.
Target companies with cross-border operations
Employers with Canadian or Mexican parent companies, subsidiaries, or active trade relationships are accustomed to TN sponsorship. They're more likely to have internal processes for supporting the filing without treating it as an exceptional request.
Get your offer letter to cover the right duties
CBP officers assess TN eligibility based on the offer letter, not your resume. Your letter must describe duties that qualify as management consulting, including market analysis, strategic recommendations, and organizational advisory work, not general sales or account management.
Understand the Mexican consular timeline before accepting
Mexican nationals must schedule a consular interview rather than presenting at the border. Factor in appointment availability and document preparation time when negotiating your start date with a prospective employer.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers already open to TN filing
Searching broadly wastes time when many employers are unfamiliar with TN status for Business Development roles. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with recent visa filing activity so you can focus your outreach on companies already experienced with work visa sponsorship — and more likely to navigate the TN support letter process with confidence.
Prepare for CBP questions on consulting versus sales
Canadian applicants entering at the port of entry may face questions distinguishing consulting from direct sales. Have a clear, practiced explanation of how your role involves analysis and strategic recommendations rather than quota-driven selling.

Find Business Development JobsBusiness Development TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Business Development qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Business Development roles can qualify under the TN Management Consultant category, but the title alone isn't enough. Your duties must center on organizational analysis, strategic advisory work, and recommendations rather than direct sales or account management. The offer letter CBP reviews must reflect qualifying consulting-type responsibilities backed by a relevant bachelor's degree.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Business Development professionals?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadians, making it far more predictable than H-1B. Canadians can receive TN status at a port of entry the same day they present their documents. The trade-off is that TN is strictly nonimmigrant and limited to USMCA nationals, whereas H-1B allows dual intent and broader employer eligibility.
What documents does my employer need to provide for a TN application in this field?
Your employer must provide a detailed offer letter specifying your job title, duties, the professional category under USMCA, your qualifications, and the intended length of employment. The letter should describe your Business Development role in terms that map clearly to Management Consultant criteria. Some employers also include a support letter from legal or HR.
Where can I find Business Development jobs that already support TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for USMCA professionals searching for roles with TN visa sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards where sponsorship willingness is unclear, Migrate Mate lets you search Business Development roles by employers who have a demonstrated history of supporting TN filings for Canadian and Mexican professionals.
Can I renew my TN status if I stay in the same Business Development role?
Yes. TN status is granted in three-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely as long as you maintain a qualifying job offer and continue to meet the professional category requirements. Renewals follow the same process as initial applications, either at a port of entry for Canadians or through consular processing for Mexican nationals.
