Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Sales Engineer
Align your credentials to Engineer category
The TN Engineer category requires a degree in engineering or a directly related field. A computer science or electrical engineering degree supports most Sales Engineer roles, but a business degree alone won't qualify. Verify the match before applying.
Target companies with recent visa filings
Employers with recent visa filings for engineering roles already understand sponsored employment. Focusing your outreach on these companies shortens the education cycle and reduces the chance of a stalled offer.
Get your job offer letter TN-ready
CBP officers at the border review your offer letter directly. It must specify your title, start date, duties, and that the position requires an engineering degree. A vague or HR-generic letter is the most common cause of port-of-entry delays for TN applicants.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-sponsoring employers
Searching broadly for Sales Engineer jobs surfaces many roles where sponsorship is unstated or unavailable. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for employers willing to sponsor TN visas, so you spend time on opportunities that can actually move forward.
Clarify your classification before the border crossing
Mexican professionals apply at a U.S. consulate and receive a visa stamp; Canadians present documents at the port of entry and are admitted on the spot. Knowing which process applies to you determines your timeline and what documents to prepare.
Ask your employer to document technical scope in writing
Sales Engineer roles can look like pure sales positions without a clear description of technical duties. Request that your offer letter or support letter explicitly describes pre-sales engineering work, product architecture involvement, and the degree requirements tied to those functions.

Find Sales Engineer JobsSales Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Sales Engineer role actually qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, if the position genuinely requires engineering-level expertise and your degree is in engineering or a directly related technical field. CBP officers evaluate both the role and your credentials. Positions that are primarily account management with a technical title are at higher risk of a TN denial at the border, so the offer letter must accurately describe the engineering duties involved.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Sales Engineer jobs?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start as soon as an employer extends an offer and the documentation is ready. H-1B requires entering an annual lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate and a wait of months before you can begin. For Sales Engineer roles where the engineering degree requirement is clear, TN is typically faster and more predictable.
Where can I find Sales Engineer jobs that sponsor TN visas?
Most general job searches don't filter by visa sponsorship type, which means you spend time on roles that won't move forward. Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers and surfaces employers who sponsor the TN category relevant to your role, so you can target your search more efficiently from the start.
Can I switch Sales Engineer employers while on TN status?
Yes. TN status is tied to a specific employer, so changing jobs requires a new TN authorization. Canadians can get a new TN at the port of entry with an offer letter from the new employer. Mexicans need to apply for a new visa stamp at a U.S. consulate. You generally cannot start with the new employer until the new TN is approved.
Does my employer need to file anything with USCIS before I start?
For Canadian citizens crossing at a land border or airport, no USCIS petition is required. The CBP officer adjudicates the TN on the spot. Mexican citizens need a visa issued by a U.S. consulate abroad before entering. Either way, your employer needs to prepare a qualifying support letter, but they are not required to file a petition with USCIS in advance for the Canadian pathway.
