Frame your credentials around marketing science
TN visa classification under the Marketing category requires a degree in marketing, business administration, or a related field. A portfolio alone won't satisfy the requirement. Gather transcripts and a credential evaluation if your degree is from a Mexican institution.
Target employers with recent visa filing experience
Search for companies with recent visa filings in roles like Marketing Specialist or Marketing Manager. Prior sponsorship experience signals an employer already understands work visa processes and won't need heavy coaching. Employers experienced with visa sponsorship are more likely to move quickly through the TN support letter process.
Get the support letter language right
Your employer's TN support letter must explicitly state that the role requires specialized marketing knowledge at a professional level. Generic job descriptions that list broad business duties without tying them to your degree field are the most common reason CBP officers push back.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring employers
Searching broadly for Acquisition Marketing Manager openings wastes time on roles where sponsorship is never discussed. Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for TN-eligible roles, so you're applying to employers already familiar with sponsoring Canadian and Mexican professionals.
Negotiate offer timing before the filing decision
Canadians can self-petition at a Class A port of entry without advance filing, but Mexicans must apply at a U.S. consulate and allow for appointment wait times. Confirm your start date with the employer after your consulate appointment is scheduled, not before.
Prepare for job duty scrutiny at renewal
TN status is granted for three years and can be renewed indefinitely, but each renewal requires demonstrating the role still qualifies under the marketing occupation category. Document scope changes or title shifts in writing so your renewal support letter accurately reflects current duties.
Acquisition Marketing Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Acquisition Marketing Manager role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided the role requires and you hold a degree in marketing, business administration, or a closely related field. The TN category covers professional marketing work including campaign strategy, performance analysis, and growth channel management. Roles that are primarily operational or do not require a relevant degree at the professional level may face scrutiny at the border or consulate.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Acquisition Marketing Manager positions?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and can be obtained at a Canadian port of entry the same day an offer is accepted. H-1B visa requires lottery selection, a spring registration window, and a multi-month wait before work authorization begins. For Canadian professionals in marketing, TN is almost always the faster and more predictable path to starting work.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that states your job title, a description of duties tied specifically to marketing at a professional level, your required qualifications, your anticipated length of employment, and confirmation that the position is temporary in nature. USCIS and CBP both review whether the letter clearly connects the role to the TN marketing category.
Where can I find Acquisition Marketing Manager jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter for TN visa sponsorship, so you'll spend significant time applying to roles where sponsorship isn't available. Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals and surfaces Acquisition Marketing Manager openings at employers already familiar with the TN process, reducing back-and-forth with recruiters who aren't prepared to sponsor.
Can I switch Acquisition Marketing Manager employers while on TN status?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific. You cannot begin work with a new employer until a new TN has been approved, either at a port of entry for Canadians or through USCIS or consular processing. There is no portability provision like H-1B's AC21 rule, so the timing of your transition needs to be coordinated carefully with both your current end date and your new employer's filing readiness.
