Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Groom
Document your hands-on grooming credentials first
TN officers focus on proof of relevant training and experience, not just job titles. Gather employer letters, certificates from equine or animal grooming programs, and reference letters that detail specific duties like bathing, clipping, and coat conditioning.
Target equestrian facilities with established hiring pipelines
Racing stables, show barns, and veterinary boarding facilities in states like Kentucky, Florida, and California regularly hire international grooms. These employers already understand TN documentation requirements and are far less likely to stall during the offer process.
Confirm the job offer letter covers every TN requirement
Your employer's offer letter must specify the professional capacity, duration, and that the position requires your specialized grooming skills. A vague letter citing only 'stable hand' duties has caused preventable denials at the port of entry.
Understand the Mexican TN cap before you accept an offer
Mexican nationals are subject to an annual TN allocation, unlike Canadians who receive admission directly at the border. Apply early in the fiscal year and confirm with your employer that they can support USCIS filing if the cap has been reached.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers already sponsoring TN visas
Filtering for employers with recent visa filings saves weeks of outreach. Migrate Mate surfaces groom and animal care roles posted by employers experienced with work visa sponsorship, so you're not educating a hiring manager from scratch.
Renew your TN status before the expiration date, not after
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments. Canadians can renew at the border with a new offer letter, while Mexican nationals must file with USCIS well in advance. Starting the renewal process at least 90 days out avoids gaps in authorization.

Find Groom JobsGroom TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Groom position actually qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, but the role must be presented as a professional animal groomer requiring specialized skill, not a general stable hand or laborer. TN officers look for evidence of training, certifications, or a sustained work history in equine or animal grooming. A well-documented offer letter that connects your credentials to the specific duties is what makes the classification hold up at the border or in a USCIS petition.
How does TN compare to H-1B for a Groom role?
TN is significantly more practical for groom positions. The H-1B requires a bachelor's degree in a specialty field and a lottery entry, neither of which fits most grooming roles. TN has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and Canadians can obtain it at a port of entry without filing a petition weeks in advance. For hands-on animal care professionals, TN is the realistic path.
Where can I find employers in the United States who will sponsor a TN visa for a Groom?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters job listings by TN visa sponsorship history, so you can identify equestrian facilities, boarding operations, and show stables that have already sponsored international workers. This avoids spending time on employers unfamiliar with TN documentation, which is one of the most common delays in the hiring process for grooms.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application as a Groom?
Your employer must provide a detailed offer letter on company letterhead that states your job title, a description of your specialized grooming duties, the anticipated length of employment, and confirmation that you are being hired in a professional capacity. A vague letter describing general barn work without referencing your specific qualifications and the skilled nature of the role is the most frequent reason TN applications for grooming positions face scrutiny.
Can I switch employers in the United States while on TN status as a Groom?
You can change employers, but you cannot begin working for the new employer until the TN status reflects that change. Canadians typically handle this by presenting a new offer letter at a port of entry. Mexican nationals must file a new TN petition with USCIS and wait for approval before starting the new position. Working for a new employer before completing this step violates your status.
