Key Responsibility Areas:
- Design, construct, and operate power supplies and control systems for high-temperature superconducting magnets and plasma heating systems (ECRH)
- Specify, design, develop, fabricate, and commission bespoke electronic systems, encompassing low-signal analog and digital equipment, capable of operating in high-stress industrial environments including high magnetic field, vacuum, and cryogenic temperatures
- Provide comprehensive specifications and facilitate the procurement of commercial off-the-shelf electronic products
- Actively engage in discussions to define requirements for the systems to be designed
- Provide full-cycle project support, from design to operation, including prototyping and testing of samples
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with engineering, physics/science, project management, and procurement groups
- Generate and revise work packages, including electrical drawings and technical specifications
- Manage critical procurement contracts and coordinate with vendors for electrical system design, procurement, and commissioning
- Select and implement industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, IEC, etc.) for use in prototyping projects and the future fusion power plant ecosystem
- Maintain a detailed project schedule, oversee the delivery of externally furnished documentation and equipment, and coordinate subcontractors
Ideal Experience & Skillsets:
- MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related fields
- 5+ years of experience in the design and implementation of electrical and electronic systems in an industrial and/or scientific environment
- Technical proficiency in multiple areas of electrical engineering, including a subset of the following: power conversion, medium voltage distribution, switchgears, protective relaying, low voltage process-industrial facility design, instrumentation, and control
- Experience using PCB design software (Altium)
- Experience using CAD software (AutoCad, Solidworks)
- Experience in designing front-end analog electronics (differential amplifiers, trans-impedance amplifiers, precise and fast voltage comparators)
- Experience in the design and implementation of power electronics components: PWM converters (GaN/SiC/MOSFETs/IGBTs.), DCL-capacitors, high-frequency transformers, and inductors
- Experience using simulation software (PSpice, PLECS, MATLAB, Simulink)
- Nice to have experience with designing DSP- and MCU-based embedded control systems
- Experience in the integration of software and hardware in a high voltage, high current environment would be beneficial
- Experience in pulsed power systems; electrical and mechanical transient analysis and/or design implications in complex power systems
- Demonstrated ability to manage system installation within a complex project. Ability to interface with contractors, vendors, and designers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to conduct design reviews, and organize/present material to both expert and non-technical audiences
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and as part of a team
- Comfortable working to aggressive deadlines
Company Benefits:
- Salary range $130,000-$150,000

Match your credentials to the engineer category
TN visa status for Master Electricians depends on the role being framed as an engineering position, not a trade. Your application needs a degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline to satisfy the specialty occupation requirement at the border.
Translate your provincial license for U.S. employers
A Red Seal endorsement or provincial Master Electrician ticket doesn't map neatly onto U.S. licensing structures. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved organization before applying so employers can immediately verify your qualifications against their state licensing requirements.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Search Migrate Mate for employers with recent visa filings in engineering and skilled trades roles. Employers already experienced with visa sponsorship processes are significantly more likely to sponsor TN status, since they understand work visa requirements and timelines. For Canadians, this means a support letter presentation at the U.S. border; for Mexicans, it means consulate processing—both streamlined compared to other visa categories.
Ask for a detailed support letter before crossing
Canadian nationals apply for TN status directly at a port of entry, so the employer support letter is your entire case. It must specify your engineering duties, your degree field, and the temporary nature of the position. Vague letters are the primary reason CBP officers defer or deny.
Search TN-specific job listings through Migrate Mate
Most general job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type, so you waste time on roles where employers won't support TN status. Migrate Mate surfaces Master Electrician openings specifically tagged for TN sponsorship, narrowing your search to employers already willing to file.
Confirm state licensing requirements before accepting an offer
TN status gets you into the U.S., but practicing as a Master Electrician requires a state-issued license. Requirements vary significantly by state. Some accept Canadian credentials directly; others require passing the NEC-based exam before you can pull permits or supervise electrical work.
Master Electrician TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Master Electrician role actually qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the role is structured. TN status doesn't cover trade-based positions, but a Master Electrician role framed as an electrical engineering position, requiring a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, can qualify under the Engineer category. USCIS and CBP look at your actual duties and your degree field, not just the job title.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Master Electrician positions?
TN is faster and more predictable for Canadians. There's no annual lottery, no cap, and Canadians can apply directly at a port of entry the same day they receive a job offer. H-1B visa requires entering a lottery with roughly 25% selection odds and waiting months for a start date. For Master Electricians with engineering degrees, TN is the practical first choice.
Where can I find Master Electrician jobs that already support TN sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters job listings by visa type, so you can find Master Electrician openings where the employer has already indicated willingness to support TN status. That saves you from cold-approaching companies unfamiliar with the TN process or unwilling to sponsor at all.
Can Mexican nationals get TN status for Master Electrician roles the same way Canadians can?
No. Mexican TN applicants must apply for a TN visa stamp at a U.S. consulate in Mexico rather than at the border. The consular appointment process adds lead time, and Mexico does have a numerical limit on TN visas, though that cap has not historically been exhausted. The engineering degree and employer support letter requirements are identical.
What happens to my TN status if I change employers mid-project?
TN status is employer-specific. If you switch companies, your new employer needs to establish a new TN authorization before you start working for them. Canadians can do this at the border with updated support documentation. Mexican nationals need a new consular appointment. There's no portability provision under TN the way there is under some H-1B extensions.
