ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Associate Manufacturing Engineer is an entry-level role on the Manufacturing & Test Engineering team, supporting production of Extreme Networks’ switching, routing, wireless, and cloud appliance products through global contract manufacturing (CM) and ODM partners. With guidance from senior manufacturing engineers, you will support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews, create process documentation, assist with New Product Introduction (NPI) builds, and help improve yield, quality, and cost on the production line. This hands-on role combines process engineering, supplier collaboration, and data analysis, making it a strong starting point for a career in manufacturing, operations, or hardware engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Support DFM, DFA, and DFx reviews for new networking hardware, including PCB assemblies and system-level products, under the guidance of senior manufacturing engineers.
- Help create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, routings, BOMs, PFMEAs, and control plans.
- Participate in NPI builds (EVT/DVT/PVT) at CM sites and Extreme labs by collecting build data, tracking issues, and supporting resolution.
- Assist with process qualification for SMT, PTH, BGA rework, conformal coating, mechanical assembly, and box-build operations.
- Analyze production data, including yield, scrap, defect Pareto, and cycle time, to identify improvement opportunities and share findings with the team.
- Support root-cause analysis and 8D problem solving for major production issues, and track corrective and preventive actions through completion.
- Help manage ECO and MCO changes on the production line by coordinating with planning, supply chain, and CM partners.
- Assist with first-article inspections, in-process audits, and supplier process audits at ODM partner sites.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts using Lean and Six Sigma tools such as 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping, and SPC.
- Help define and qualify tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids, and track project-level capital and tooling spend.
- Maintain a clean, safe, ESD-controlled work environment and follow all lab and production safety procedures.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience, including internships, co-ops, or capstone projects in manufacturing, operations, or hardware engineering.
- Working knowledge of electronic assembly processes, including SMT, PTH, BGA, and mechanical assembly, gained through coursework, internships, or hands-on projects.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T fundamentals, and reading BOMs and schematics.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools, with Excel required; experience with Power BI, Minitab, JMP, or Python is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document procedures and findings.
- Curiosity, a sense of ownership, and willingness to spend time on the production floor and in the lab.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Exposure to PLM or ERP systems such as Agile, Arena, Oracle, or SAP.
- Coursework or project experience with Lean, Six Sigma, statistical process control (SPC), or Design of Experiments (DOE).

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Manufacturing Associate
Classify your role before applying
TN visas don't have a Manufacturing Associate category by name. Your role must map to an approved USMCA occupation like Industrial Engineer or Scientific Technician. Confirm the classification fits your actual job duties before targeting employers.
Build a degree-to-duties evidence file
Border officers and consular reviewers scrutinize whether your engineering or science degree connects to the manufacturing tasks you'll perform. Prepare a detailed duties letter from your prospective employer and a credential summary showing that connection explicitly.
Target manufacturers experienced with visa sponsorship
Companies experienced with visa sponsorship understand the employer support letter requirements and are prepared to move quickly through the TN application process. Search job postings that explicitly reference TN visa or USMCA eligibility to filter for employers ready to support your application at the port of entry or consulate.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring manufacturers
Migrate Mate surfaces Manufacturing Associate jobs from employers actively offering TN visa sponsorship, so you're not guessing which companies will support the filing. Search by role and location to identify verified opportunities before reaching out.
Get your employer support letter right before entry
For Canadian citizens, the employer support letter is reviewed at the port of entry, not weeks in advance. It must detail your job title, duties, salary, and the specific USMCA category your role qualifies under. A missing element can result in denial at the border.
Understand Mexican nationals face a separate consular process
Unlike Canadians, Mexican nationals cannot apply for TN status at the border. You'll schedule a consular interview at a U.S. embassy in Mexico and complete the DS-160 form. Factor in consular appointment wait times when negotiating your start date with the employer.
Manufacturing Associate TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Manufacturing Associate role actually qualify for a TN visa?
It depends on the specific duties and your credentials. TN visas don't list Manufacturing Associate as a named category, but roles in this title often qualify under Industrial Engineer or Scientific Technician/Technologist if your job duties align and you hold a relevant bachelor's degree or associate degree with technical credentials. The employer's job description and your degree field both matter significantly.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Manufacturing Associate positions?
TN is generally faster and more predictable for Canadian and Mexican nationals in manufacturing roles. There's no lottery for Canadians, no annual cap wait, and Canadians can receive TN status at the border on the day of entry. H-1B visa requires an employer to file a petition months in advance, subjects you to a random lottery, and involves significantly longer processing timelines. For qualifying manufacturing roles, TN is the more direct path.
What documentation does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer must provide a detailed support letter confirming your job title, specific duties, the USMCA occupation category your role qualifies under, and your offered salary. The letter should also confirm the employer's U.S. address and your intended start date. For Canadian citizens, this letter is reviewed at the port of entry, so accuracy and completeness are critical.
Where can I find Manufacturing Associate jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type, which makes it difficult to identify employers open to TN applicants specifically. Migrate Mate is built for this search, letting you find Manufacturing Associate roles from employers that actively support TN visa sponsorship for Canadian and Mexican professionals, without having to cold-screen hundreds of listings.
Can I switch Manufacturing Associate employers while on TN status?
Yes, but you can't simply transfer your existing TN status to a new employer. You need to obtain new TN authorization tied to the new employer before starting work there. Canadian citizens can do this at the border with a new employer support letter. Mexican nationals must return to a U.S. consulate in Mexico to apply for updated TN status under the new employer.
