Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Proposal Specialist
Frame your credentials around management consulting
TN approval for Proposal Specialists depends on fitting the Management Consultant category. Gather documentation showing your degree in business, communications, or a related field, and connect your proposal work to organizational strategy, not just writing.
Target federal contractors and defense firms first
Companies with active government contracts file proposals constantly and staff dedicated Proposal Specialists year-round. These employers understand TN sponsorship because their compliance teams already manage complex government requirements, making them faster to approve your offer.
Distinguish your role from a general writer on paper
CBP officers and USCIS reviewers look for management-level scope. Your offer letter should specify that you're advising on bid strategy, coordinating cross-functional teams, or managing the full proposal lifecycle, not just editing documents.
Get your offer letter reviewed before crossing the border
Canadians can apply for TN status directly at a port of entry, but a poorly worded support letter is the most common reason for delays. Use Migrate Mate to prep your filing package and confirm your documentation meets CBP's Management Consultant standard.
Ask employers about their USCIS filing preference early
Some U.S. employers prefer filing Form I-129 with USCIS rather than sending you to the border. Mexican nationals require this route since TN visas must be obtained at a U.S. consulate. Raise this during the offer stage, not after you've signed.
Collect past proposal work samples tied to dollar outcomes
Concrete evidence of contracts won strengthens your TN petition by demonstrating that your role has organizational impact beyond writing. RFP wins, contract values, and client retention metrics show CBP or USCIS that the position functions at a consulting level.

Find Proposal Specialist JobsProposal Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Proposal Specialist qualify as a TN visa occupation?
Proposal Specialists don't have a dedicated TN category, but they frequently qualify under Management Consultant. The key is demonstrating that your role involves advising on bid strategy and organizational decision-making, not just drafting documents. Your employer's support letter must frame the position at that level, and your degree should align with the consulting function.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Proposal Specialist roles?
TN is generally faster and more predictable for Proposal Specialists. There's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and the employer's filing burden is lighter. H-1B requires submitting in April and waiting for a lottery selection before starting the application. TN can be approved at the Canadian border in a single day, which most employers find significantly easier to manage for this role.
Can Mexican nationals get TN sponsorship for Proposal Specialist jobs?
Yes, but the process differs from the Canadian route. Mexican nationals must apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate rather than at a port of entry, which adds time. The employer still files a support letter, and the Management Consultant qualification standard is the same. Processing at the consulate typically takes a few weeks depending on appointment availability.
Where can I find Proposal Specialist jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most standard job boards don't filter by TN visa sponsorship, which makes it hard to know which employers will actually support your application. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting you find Proposal Specialist openings where TN sponsorship is confirmed so you're not wasting time applying to employers who won't sponsor.
What documents should I prepare before applying for a Proposal Specialist TN role?
You'll need your educational credentials showing a degree relevant to consulting or business, a detailed employer support letter describing your management-level duties, and proof of Canadian or Mexican citizenship. If your degree is from outside North America, a credential evaluation helps. Canadians applying at the border should bring all documents in a single organized package since there's no opportunity to supplement after presenting.
