Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Reconstructive Surgeon
Verify your board certification documents early
CBP and USCIS require proof of medical degree, residency completion, and board certification in reconstructive or plastic surgery. Gather certified copies of each document before targeting employers, since incomplete packets are the most common cause of TN delays.
Target academic medical centers and hospital systems
Teaching hospitals and large health systems have dedicated credentialing and immigration teams familiar with TN sponsorship for surgical specialists. They can confirm your reconstructive surgery role fits the physician category before extending an offer, reducing back-and-forth later.
Confirm the job offer letter covers TN requirements
Your offer letter must specify your title, the reconstructive surgery duties, your start date, and that the position is nonimmigrant in nature. USCIS and CBP both scrutinize this document, so ask the hiring team to review it against TN physician category standards before you sign.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify hospitals and surgical practices actively sponsoring TN visa professionals for reconstructive surgeon roles, so you can focus your applications on employers already equipped to handle the filing.
Understand how Mexican applicants must file differently
Unlike Canadians who can self-petition at a port of entry, Mexican nationals must apply for a TN visa stamp at a U.S. consulate. Schedule your consular appointment early and prepare your support documents in parallel with your employer's offer process to avoid delays.
Plan your TN renewal around hospital credentialing cycles
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments, but hospital credentialing renewals often run on two-year cycles. Align your TN renewal filing with your credentialing review to avoid a status gap that would interrupt your surgical privileges and hospital access.

Find Reconstructive Surgeon JobsReconstructive Surgeon TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does reconstructive surgery qualify as a TN visa physician occupation?
Yes. The USMCA physician category covers medical doctors engaged in teaching or research, and reconstructive surgeons practicing at hospitals or academic medical centers generally qualify. Your offer letter must describe duties consistent with physician-level practice in reconstructive surgery, and you must hold a valid medical degree and completed residency or fellowship credentials.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for reconstructive surgeons?
The TN visa has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and no lengthy USCIS petition queue for physicians in most cases. H-1B requires a lottery selection that limits availability each fiscal year. TN status is granted in three-year increments and is renewable indefinitely, making it a more predictable path for reconstructive surgeons who have a qualifying employer and meet the physician category criteria.
Can a reconstructive surgeon work at multiple hospitals on a single TN?
TN status is employer-specific, meaning your approval is tied to the sponsoring institution listed in your petition or border application. Working at a second hospital requires a separate TN filing or an amended petition naming the additional employer. Some surgeons with attending roles at affiliated hospitals file concurrent TN petitions to cover each facility legally.
Where can I find reconstructive surgeon jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is designed specifically for TN visa job seekers, letting you filter for reconstructive surgeon roles at employers already set up to sponsor Canadian and Mexican professionals. Searching through a TN-focused platform saves time compared to filtering general job listings where sponsorship availability is often unclear or unstated.
What happens to my TN status if my hospital employment ends?
TN status is tied to your sponsoring employer, so your authorized period of stay technically lapses when employment ends. You have a short practical window to secure a new TN-sponsoring employer and file a fresh petition or present at a port of entry. USCIS does not provide a formal grace period for TN holders equivalent to the 60-day H-1B grace period, so acting quickly matters.
