Verify your ECVIM-CA certification documentation
TN visa classification requires proof of veterinary licensure and specialty credentials. Gather your ECVIM-CA or ACVIM diplomate certificate, your DVM or VMD degree, and any state veterinary license before approaching employers, as CBP officers review these at entry.
Target academic and referral hospital employers first
Veterinary cardiology positions at university teaching hospitals and specialty referral centers are most familiar with TN sponsorship paperwork. These employers regularly hire board-certified specialists from Canada and Mexico and understand the documentation their HR teams need to prepare.
Distinguish the Veterinarian category from related TN listings
TN visa job postings sometimes list roles under broad science categories rather than Veterinarian. Confirm with hiring managers that your offer letter explicitly names the USMCA Veterinarian occupation category, since the classification wording on the support letter determines CBP eligibility at the port of entry.
Search TN-sponsored cardiology roles through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Veterinary Cardiologist openings by employers with recent visa filings. This surfaces practices and hospital networks experienced with visa sponsorship, cutting the time spent screening roles where sponsorship support may be uncertain.
Negotiate employer letter specifics before signing an offer
Your employer support letter must state your ACVIM or ECVIM-CA specialty, the cardiology-specific duties, your DVM credential, and the employing entity's name exactly as filed. Ambiguous duty descriptions are a common CBP rejection point for specialist veterinarian cases.
Understand the Mexican consular appointment timeline
Mexican nationals cannot use the Canadian land-border TN procedure and must schedule a consular interview, which adds processing time. Plan your start date with your employer accounting for appointment availability at the nearest U.S. consulate in Mexico.
Veterinary Cardiologist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Veterinary Cardiologist qualify as a TN visa occupation?
Yes. The USMCA Veterinarian category covers veterinary specialists, including board-certified cardiologists holding a DVM or VMD. Your ACVIM or ECVIM-CA diplomate status supports the specialty designation, and your employer's offer letter must describe cardiology-specific duties to align with the occupation category CBP uses to adjudicate TN admission.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Veterinary Cardiologist positions?
TN has no annual cap and no lottery for Canadian citizens, so you can start as soon as an employer is ready rather than waiting for an October start date after winning an H-1B visa selection. Mexican nationals face a 5,500-per-year TN cap, but adjudication is still far faster than the H-1B process. TN also requires no I-129 petition filing for Canadians, reducing employer cost and paperwork significantly.
How do I find Veterinary Cardiologist employers who already sponsor TN visas?
Use Migrate Mate to search Veterinary Cardiologist roles filtered by TN sponsorship. Specialty referral hospitals, university veterinary schools, and multi-site specialty practices are the employer types most likely to have existing TN infrastructure. Targeting employers with prior sponsorship experience avoids delays caused by HR teams unfamiliar with the process.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application?
Your employer prepares a support letter on company letterhead that states the job title under the USMCA Veterinarian category, a description of cardiology-specific duties, your anticipated start date, and the employing entity's details. You supply your DVM or VMD credential, ACVIM or ECVIM-CA diplomate certificate, and valid Canadian or Mexican passport. Canadians present all of this at the port of entry.
Can a Veterinary Cardiologist on TN status change employers mid-status?
Yes, but TN status is tied to the specific employer named in your admission. Canadians can present a new employer support letter and credentials at a port of entry to obtain a new TN. Mexican nationals return to a U.S. consulate. There is no USCIS portability provision like H-1B's AC21, so coordinate your transition timing carefully with your new employer before leaving your current role.
