TN Visa OT Jobs
Occupational therapist roles qualify for TN visa sponsorship under USMCA, covering both clinical and school-based OT positions. Canadian citizens can apply at the border without a lottery wait. Mexican nationals need a consular appointment. A valid OT license and a U.S. employer offer are the two non-negotiable requirements.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship in OT
Verify your OT license transfers cleanly
Some U.S. states require a credential evaluation before granting OT licensure to foreign-trained therapists. Confirm your provincial or Mexican license maps to NBCOT standards before targeting employers, since a pending license can stall your TN visa offer.
Target employers with dedicated credentialing departments
Hospital systems, school districts, and large rehab networks handle TN sponsorship more reliably than small private clinics. These employers have HR staff who know how to draft the TN support letter without needing attorney guidance from you.
Request a role-specific offer letter upfront
Your TN support letter must explicitly name occupational therapist as the USMCA qualifying category. Ask the employer to include your job duties, required OT degree, and anticipated work period before you submit any border or consular application.
Search verified sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter OT roles by employers who have active TN or H-1B visa filing history. This cuts out listings where sponsorship is listed as possible but never actually processed for prior hires.
Prepare for border entry if you hold Canadian citizenship
Canadian OTs can complete TN admission at a land port of entry or pre-clearance airport by presenting the employer letter, your degree, and OT license. CBP adjudicates on the spot, so arrive with originals and a copy set.
Address travel therapy contracts carefully at renewal
TN status is employer-specific. If your OT role is through a staffing agency placing you at multiple hospital sites, the agency is your TN employer of record. Each renewal requires updated documentation reflecting your current contract terms.
OT TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does occupational therapist qualify as a TN visa category?
Yes. Occupational therapist is an explicitly listed profession under the USMCA TN visa category. You must hold a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in occupational therapy and maintain an active OT license valid in the U.S. state where you'll be working. Both Canadian and Mexican nationals are eligible, though Mexicans must apply through a U.S. consulate rather than at the border.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for OT roles?
TN is generally faster and more predictable for OTs than H-1B. There's no annual lottery for Canadians, no cap to worry about, and no lengthy USCIS processing queue for border applicants. H-1B requires a petitioning employer, a March registration window, and often a wait of over a year before work authorization begins. For OT roles, TN is the more direct path if you're a Canadian or Mexican national.
Can I work for multiple OT employers on a single TN visa?
Not simultaneously on the same TN. Your TN status is tied to a specific employer. If you want to add a second employer or shift from one facility to another, you need a new TN application reflecting that employer. Travel therapy OTs working through a staffing agency should ensure the agency, not the placement facility, is listed as the TN employer of record.
Where can I find OT jobs that actually offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you filter OT listings by employers with verified TN or work visa sponsorship history, so you're not wasting applications on roles where sponsorship is listed but never processed. Many hospital systems and school districts actively recruit Canadian OTs and have established workflows for TN documentation.
What documents does an OT need to enter the U.S. on TN status?
Canadian OTs applying at the border need a valid Canadian passport, a signed employer support letter explicitly referencing the USMCA occupational therapist category, proof of a qualifying OT degree, and a current state OT license or evidence of licensure pending. Mexican nationals also need a valid DS-160, a visa interview appointment, and the same supporting documents submitted to the U.S. consulate.
