Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Certified Diabetes Educator
Verify your credential meets TN requirements
Your CDCES certification alone doesn't establish TN eligibility. You also need an underlying qualifying degree, typically in nursing, dietetics, or a related health science, that maps to the Medical/Allied Professional category the TN visa program recognizes.
Target health systems with visa sponsorship experience
Large hospital networks and integrated health systems have experience sponsoring work visas and maintain HR teams familiar with visa sponsorship processes. Smaller outpatient clinics often lack this experience and may be unfamiliar with the TN support letter requirements needed for Canadian applicants or consulate procedures for Mexican applicants.
Search TN-sponsored roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Certified Diabetes Educator openings by TN visa sponsorship availability. It surfaces employers with active sponsorship history so you're not cold-applying to organizations unfamiliar with the TN process.
Prepare a credential equivalency letter early
If your degree is from a Canadian or Mexican institution, get a formal U.S. credential evaluation before presenting your documentation at the U.S. port of entry or consulate. Immigration officers can question foreign degree equivalency, and having this documentation ready prevents delays during your TN visa application.
Clarify TN renewal expectations with your employer upfront
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no cap on renewals, but each renewal requires a new employer letter and active employment. Confirm your offer letter includes language covering renewals before you sign, so there's no ambiguity later.
Understand how Mexican TN consular processing differs
Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate rather than a port of entry. Factor in appointment wait times at the consulate and make sure your employer's support letter is complete and ready before you schedule your interview.

Find Certified Diabetes Educator JobsCertified Diabetes Educator TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Certified Diabetes Educator role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, Certified Diabetes Educators qualify under the TN visa's Medical/Allied Professional category, provided you hold a relevant underlying degree in nursing, dietetics, or a related health science field. The CDCES credential strengthens your application by demonstrating specialty knowledge, but CBP or a consular officer will also assess your degree to confirm it aligns with the role you've been offered.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Certified Diabetes Educator positions?
The TN visa has a clear advantage for this role: there's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and approval can happen at the port of entry the same day. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, a lottery selection, and USCIS adjudication that can take several months. For Canadian CDEs, TN is almost always the faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment.
How can I find employers who will sponsor a TN visa for a diabetes educator role?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find Certified Diabetes Educator jobs with TN visa sponsorship. It filters openings by employer experience with visa sponsorship, so you're targeting companies who have recent work visa filings and understand the sponsorship process, rather than spending time educating hiring managers who've never sponsored international professionals before.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application?
Your employer needs to provide a detailed support letter on company letterhead. That letter must describe your specific CDE duties, confirm your CDCES credential and degree, state your salary and employment start date, and affirm the position qualifies under TN professional requirements. At the port of entry (for Canadian citizens) or U.S. consulate (for Mexican citizens), you'll present this letter along with your credentials and job offer. The consular officer or CBP official will review whether your role and qualifications meet TN eligibility criteria before approval.
Can Mexican Certified Diabetes Educators apply for TN status at the border like Canadians can?
No. Mexican citizens must apply for TN status through a U.S. consulate, not at a port of entry. You'll need your employer's support letter before scheduling your consular interview. Appointment availability varies by consulate location, so build extra lead time into your start date planning and confirm with your employer that all documents are finalized before you book.
