Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship in Midwife
Align your credentials before applying
TN classification for midwives requires proof of a qualifying degree and state licensure. Get your transcripts evaluated by a NACES-accredited body if your degree is from a Canadian or Mexican institution before you start sending applications.
Target health systems with LCA history
Hospitals and integrated health systems that have filed Labor Condition Applications before are already familiar with the TN sponsorship process. Focus your search on large employers in states with active midwifery practices, such as California, Texas, and New York.
Clarify your licensing status early in interviews
State midwifery licensure requirements vary widely. Raise your licensing status with hiring managers before an offer is extended, not after, so they can confirm the role qualifies and initiate any required credentialing steps without delays.
Request a support letter covering TN criteria
Ask your employer to prepare a detailed offer letter that explicitly states your job title, degree requirement, and that the role constitutes a specialty occupation under USMCA. CBP officers review this letter at the port of entry for Canadian applicants.
Search for verified TN sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find midwife roles where employers have confirmed TN visa sponsorship. It filters out positions that won't support your status, saving you from applying to jobs that look right but don't lead to a viable offer.
Benchmark your offered wage against OFLC data
Your employer must pay at least the prevailing wage for your role and location. Check the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer to confirm the salary meets DOL standards, since a wage discrepancy can delay or complicate your TN filing.

Find Midwife JobsMidwife TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the midwife occupation qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, midwifery qualifies for TN status under USMCA when the role requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in nursing or a related field. The employer's offer letter must confirm the degree requirement and that the position is a professional-level specialty occupation. A valid state midwifery or nursing license is also required before you can legally practice.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for midwife roles?
The TN visa is available year-round with no lottery and no annual cap for Canadians. H-1B requires entering a random lottery each spring, and selection is not guaranteed. Canadian midwives can often secure TN status at a port of entry the same day. Mexican nationals use consular processing, which takes longer but still avoids the H-1B lottery entirely.
What documents does a Canadian midwife need at the port of entry?
You'll need a valid Canadian passport, your employer's offer letter describing the role and its degree requirement, your degree transcripts or a credential evaluation, and proof of current state licensure. CBP officers adjudicate TN applications on the spot at most major ports of entry, so having a complete, organized packet is essential to avoiding a secondary review or refusal.
Where can I find midwife jobs that actively support TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN-eligible roles. You can search for midwife positions where employers have confirmed sponsorship willingness, which removes the guesswork of cold-applying to health systems that may not understand or support the TN process.
Can a Mexican midwife apply for TN status, and how does the process differ?
Yes, Mexican citizens qualify for TN status but must apply at a U.S. consulate rather than at a port of entry. The consular process involves scheduling an interview, submitting the DS-160 form, and paying the visa application fee. Processing timelines vary by consulate and season. The core documentation requirements, degree, offer letter, and state license, are the same as for Canadian applicants.
