TN Visa Periodontist Jobs
Periodontist roles qualify for TN visa sponsorship under USMCA as a recognized dental specialty requiring a dental degree and advanced specialty training. Canadian citizens can apply at the port of entry with no cap or lottery. Mexican nationals need a visa stamp from a U.S. consulate. Both pathways require a written employer job offer confirming specialty practice.

Verify your specialty credentials match TN requirements
TN visa classification for Dentists covers periodontists, but your offer letter must specify periodontics as the practice area. Confirm your dental degree and specialty certificate are ready to present, as CBP reviews credentials at the port of entry.
Target group dental practices over solo offices
Multi-location dental groups and academic dental centers file TN support letters routinely and have HR teams familiar with the process. Solo practitioners often lack the administrative infrastructure to draft a compliant TN support letter without guidance.
Request a detailed support letter from your employer
Your employer's TN support letter must state your specific periodontal duties, your appointment duration, and confirmation that you hold a qualifying dental degree. Vague letters citing only 'dentistry' are a common reason CBP requests additional documentation.
Understand the Mexican TN consular appointment timeline
Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate abroad, not at the border. Consular appointment wait times vary by post and season, so build at least six to eight weeks into your start date negotiation to avoid gaps before your first patient day.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers already sponsoring TN visas
Search Migrate Mate to identify dental employers with recent visa filings, so your outreach focuses on practices experienced with visa sponsorship who may be open to TN candidacy for periodontics roles.
Negotiate TN renewal timing before accepting an offer
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments with unlimited renewals. Confirm your employment contract covers at least the initial TN period, and align your contract renewal date with your TN expiration to avoid a status gap mid-employment.
Periodontist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a periodontist qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Periodontists qualify under the Dentist category in the USMCA TN occupation list. The classification covers dental specialists, including periodontists, provided you hold a dental degree from an accredited institution and have a bona fide offer of employment from a U.S. dental practice or institution specifying periodontal services.
How does TN visa sponsorship for periodontists compare to H-1B?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and can be approved at the border the same day for Canadians. H-1B visa requires employer petition filing months in advance with USCIS, plus lottery selection. For periodontists with a confirmed job offer, TN is generally faster and more predictable than H-1B visa for initial entry.
What documents does a Mexican periodontist need for TN consular processing?
You'll need your dental degree, specialty training certificate, a detailed support letter from your U.S. employer describing your periodontal duties and appointment terms, a valid Mexican passport, and the DS-160 application. The consular officer evaluates whether your credentials and the role meet the USMCA Dentist category definition.
Where can I find U.S. dental employers who sponsor TN visas for periodontists?
Migrate Mate filters employers by recent visa filing history, so you can target dental groups and academic medical centers experienced with sponsoring work visas rather than starting cold with employers unfamiliar with the process. That narrows your search to practices prepared to support your TN application with the required employer letter at the port of entry or consulate.
Can a periodontist maintain TN status while pursuing a green card?
TN is a nonimmigrant classification and does not allow dual intent the way H-1B does. Actively pursuing permanent residence while on TN status can raise issues at renewal or re-entry, as CBP may question your nonimmigrant intent. Many periodontists on TN consult an immigration attorney before filing any immigrant petition.
