Verify your credential maps to TN
The TN visa Accountant category requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in accounting or a related field. A CPA designation alone won't satisfy the requirement if your underlying degree is in an unrelated discipline.
Target employers with recent visa filings
Revenue Accountant roles at publicly traded companies, private equity-backed firms, and large SaaS companies typically employ professionals on various work visas. Prioritize employers with recent visa filings in finance functions, as this demonstrates established sponsorship experience and the organizational infrastructure to support work visa candidates, including those pursuing TN status.
Request a TN support letter before accepting
Your offer letter isn't your TN documentation. Ask your employer to draft a detailed support letter confirming your job title, duties, required credentials, and TN category before you finalize the start date.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-ready employers
Migrate Mate filters Revenue Accountant roles by employers with recent visa filings and sponsorship experience, so you're not cold-pitching companies unfamiliar with work visa processes. Start your search there before applying broadly.
Prepare for port-of-entry processing as a Canadian
Canadian citizens can obtain TN status directly at a U.S. land border or airport without a consular visa appointment. Bring your degree transcripts, the employer support letter, and your job offer to present to CBP.
Understand how Mexican TN processing differs
Mexican citizens must apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate rather than seeking admission directly at the border. Schedule your consular appointment early since USCIS or DOS processing timelines vary by post and season.
Revenue Accountant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Revenue Accountant role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided your employer's offer letter describes duties that fall squarely within the Accountant category under USMCA. Revenue recognition analysis, ASC 606 compliance work, and financial close responsibilities all support a strong TN case. Roles that blend significant managerial or IT duties can draw scrutiny, so the job description should emphasize accounting-specific functions.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Revenue Accountant positions?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and no premium processing wait since Canadians apply directly at the border. H-1B visa requires employer sponsorship months in advance, subjects you to a randomized lottery, and typically involves longer lead times. For Revenue Accountants who qualify under USMCA, TN is a faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Where can I find Revenue Accountant jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN-eligible roles. It filters Revenue Accountant positions by employers with recent visa filings and sponsorship experience, so you can focus on companies that already understand work visa processes rather than educating employers from scratch during interviews.
What credentials does my employer need to verify for a Revenue Accountant TN petition?
Your employer's TN support letter must confirm that the role requires at minimum a baccalaureate degree in accounting or a directly related field, and that you hold that credential. If your degree is in a related discipline, you may also reference a CPA designation or professional licensing to reinforce the connection. Since TN classification is determined at the port of entry (for Canadians) or U.S. consulate (for Mexicans) based on your documentation, the employer's letter and your credentials carry significant weight in demonstrating eligibility.
Can I switch Revenue Accountant employers while on TN status?
Yes, but your TN authorization is employer-specific. You cannot start working for a new employer until that employer has obtained new TN status on your behalf, either through a CBP border admission for Canadians or a consular visa for Mexican citizens. Working even briefly for a new employer before that process is complete puts your status at risk.
