Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Software Quality Assurance
Align your credentials to Computer Systems Analyst
TN visa approvals for QA roles hinge on the Computer Systems Analyst designation. Your degree, transcripts, and job offer letter must consistently reference systems analysis, software testing methodology, or QA process design, not just generic testing duties.
Target employers with recent visa sponsorship experience
Employers with recent visa filings for software roles have already demonstrated experience navigating work visa sponsorship. Filtering by employers experienced with visa sponsorship in your job search surfaces companies with established immigration processes, reducing the likelihood of complications when presenting your TN documentation at the port of entry or U.S. consulate.
Flag contract roles before accepting any offer
QA work frequently comes through staffing agencies or project-based contracts. TN status requires a direct employer-employee relationship or a clear end-client arrangement with defined scope, so clarify the employment structure before signing anything.
Prepare a specialty occupation memo for your employer
Many hiring managers don't know QA qualifies for TN status. Draft a one-page summary showing that your role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, citing the USCIS TN occupation list and your job description, so HR can move forward confidently.
Use Migrate Mate to find QA jobs with TN sponsorship
Searching broad job boards surfaces roles with no visa pathway. Migrate Mate filters specifically for Software Quality Assurance positions where employers have confirmed TN sponsorship, saving you from applying to companies that will decline at the offer stage.
Request a support letter that specifies project scope
Canadian citizens entering at a port of entry need a CBP-ready support letter. Have your employer include the project duration, your specific QA responsibilities, and the degree requirement for the role. Vague letters are the leading cause of TN delays at the border.

Find Software Quality Assurance JobsSoftware Quality Assurance TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Software Quality Assurance qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, Software Quality Assurance roles qualify under the TN visa's Computer Systems Analyst category when the position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field and involves systems analysis, test design, or QA process development. Generic testing roles that don't require a specific degree may face scrutiny, so the job offer letter must clearly articulate the technical degree requirement.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Software Quality Assurance professionals?
TN is significantly more accessible for QA professionals who are Canadian or Mexican citizens. There's no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and approval can happen at a port of entry the same day. H-1B requires an employer to enter a lottery in March with a roughly one-in-four selection chance, and the process takes six to twelve months. TN is renewable indefinitely in three-year increments, making it a practical long-term option for QA careers.
Where can I find Software Quality Assurance jobs that offer TN sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters Software Quality Assurance openings by employers who have confirmed TN visa sponsorship, so you're not wasting applications on companies that will back out once visa requirements come up. Standard job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type, which means most QA listings you find there have no confirmed TN pathway.
What does a Canadian QA professional need to cross the border on a TN visa?
Canadian citizens present their documents directly to CBP at a land border or pre-clearance airport. You'll need a valid Canadian passport, a support letter from your employer on company letterhead detailing the job title, duties, and degree requirement, and your own degree transcripts or diploma. CBP officers adjudicate TN applications on the spot, so having a clean, specific support letter is the most important preparation step.
Can a Mexican Software Quality Assurance professional use TN instead of H-1B?
Yes, but Mexican nationals follow a different process. TN status for Mexican citizens requires a consular visa appointment at a U.S. embassy or consulate in Mexico, and an annual cap of 5,500 applies. Despite the cap, demand from Mexico has historically stayed well below that limit, so waitlisting is rare. The consular route still avoids the H-1B lottery and produces a decision within weeks of a successful interview.
