The Charleston Veterinary Referral Center is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our outstanding Rehabilitation team!
Compensation: $19-22/ hr based on experience and skill level
Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 7am-6pm variable

General Purpose:
The Rehab Veterinary Assistant is responsible for assisting the veterinary rehab technicians, and other clinic staff with the daily operations of veterinary practice. They are an important part of CVRC and ensure the hospital runs smoothly and that patients receive the care and attention they need while in our care. This position is primarily animal husbandry care.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Learning skills and knowledge for gentle and safe patient (canine & feline) restraint for exams and assisting with patient treatments.
- Attention to detail pertaining to patient behavior, movement/posture abnormalities, signs of pain, signs of fatigue, cleanliness and tidiness of workspace - to maintain a safe space to work, no trip hazards, room to navigate around, keeping patients separate from one another, disinfecting treatment area and equipment between each patient visit.
- Patience and learned understanding with debilitated patients and ability to assist non-ambulatory patients utilizing assistive devices.
- Set up equipment (TENS, ESWT, Stance Analyzer, etc.) and assist with those procedures.
- Participate in carrying out patient treatment plans (including laser therapy and underwater treadmill work) walk and feed patients, obtain baseline physical parameters such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and weight.
- Stocking of medical supplies, laundry, and cleaning in rehab and various areas of the hospital, as needed.
Qualifications
- Veterinary experience preferred, but not required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, time management skills, proven ability to meet deadlines, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude to maintain a professional and encouraging team culture.
- Must have the ability to respond quickly in urgent situations using all senses. During the normal workday, employee may occasionally lift and/or push/pull up to 50 pounds.
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
