Tips for Your Veterinary Cardiologist Job Search
Lead your CV with board certification status
Hiring committees for veterinary cardiologist roles screen for ACVIM Cardiology diplomate status before reading anything else. Place your board certification, exam date, and residency institution in the first four lines of your CV so reviewers confirm eligibility immediately.
Quantify your echocardiography case volume
Referral hospitals and academic programs want cardiologists who can handle high throughput. List your annual or cumulative echocardiography case volume and catheterization procedure counts in your experience section so hiring managers can gauge clinical capacity against their caseload.
Target openings by service model not just location
Veterinary cardiology positions differ sharply between solo-service practices, multi-specialist hospitals, and teaching hospitals. Filter your search by whether a role includes emergency cardiology coverage, residency supervision, or interventional suite access, since those factors shape your day-to-day more than geography.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists veterinary cardiologist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a case-based interview presentation
Many veterinary cardiology interviews include a clinical case presentation or grand-rounds-style talk. Prepare a 15-minute echo-driven case that shows your diagnostic reasoning, client communication, and familiarity with current ACC and ACVIM guideline thresholds for specific breeds or conditions.
Negotiate protected time for research or CE
Compensation packages for veterinary cardiologists at academic centers often include protected research time or continuing education allowances that don't appear in the headline offer. Ask directly what percentage of your schedule is shielded from clinical duties and confirm CE budget in writing before signing.
Veterinary Cardiologist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most veterinary cardiologists?
The companies hiring the most veterinary cardiologists right now include BluePearl Pet Hospital, Ethos Veterinary Health, and MedVet, with the largest share of openings in Georgia, Washington, and Colorado, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Specialty referral groups and academic veterinary medical centers consistently account for the majority of posted positions.
How many veterinary cardiologist jobs are remote?
About 0% of veterinary cardiologist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most cardiology practice. Telehealth cardiology consultations and remote Holter interpretation represent the sub-specialties most likely to accommodate off-site work arrangements.
How do you become a veterinary cardiologist?
You become a veterinary cardiologist by completing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at an AVMA-accredited school, followed by a one-year rotating internship, and then a three-year ACVIM-approved cardiology residency at an approved training site. After your residency you sit for the ACVIM Cardiology board examination. Passing that exam awards diplomate status, which most employers require before you can practice independently as a veterinary cardiologist.
Can you get hired as a veterinary cardiologist without full board certification?
You can get hired as a veterinary cardiologist without full board certification if you are board-eligible, meaning you have completed an approved residency and have a scheduled or recent examination attempt. Some academic medical centers and large specialty groups hire board-eligible diplomates at a reduced scope of practice, with the expectation that you will pass the ACVIM Cardiology exam within an agreed timeframe. Positions specifically labeled for new residency graduates are your best entry point in this situation.
What does the veterinary cardiologist interview process look like?
The veterinary cardiologist interview process typically begins with a phone or video screening with a medical director or department head, followed by an on-site visit that includes a clinical case presentation, a tour of the cardiology suite, and meetings with referring clinicians and support staff. Some programs ask you to interpret echocardiography loops or ECG strips during the visit. Final-round discussions usually cover caseload expectations, call schedules, and mentorship structures before an offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to veterinary cardiologist jobs?
You can find and apply to veterinary cardiologist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your specialty, experience level, and preferred practice setting, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
