Tips for Your Healthcare Assistant Job Search
Tailor your resume to each setting
Hospital and home health postings prioritize different skills. Highlight vital signs, patient mobility assistance, and EMR familiarity for clinical settings, and shift to companionship care and ADL support when applying to home health or assisted living roles.
List every active certification prominently
Certifications like CPR, BLS, CNA, and phlebotomy often act as automatic screening filters. Place them in a dedicated credentials section near the top of your resume so recruiters and applicant tracking systems flag you immediately, not after reading your work history.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists healthcare assistant openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target openings by patient population
Filter your search by the patient population you have the most hands-on experience with. Pediatric, geriatric, and behavioral health units each expect familiarity with that population's specific care protocols, and matching that experience to the posting improves your callback rate.
Prepare a concise clinical scenario answer
Healthcare assistant interviews almost always include a situational question about a difficult patient interaction or a safety incident. Draft a two-minute answer using a real example that shows your response, what you communicated to the nursing team, and the outcome for the patient.
Follow up after the interview in writing
Send a brief thank-you email within 24 hours that references one specific topic from the interview, such as a unit's patient-to-aide ratio or a scheduling detail. It signals genuine interest in that facility and keeps your name in front of the hiring manager while they compare candidates.
Healthcare Assistant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most healthcare assistants?
The companies hiring the most healthcare assistants right now include Trinity Health, Optum, and Aspen Dental, with the largest share of openings in Texas, New York, and Florida, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is especially high in home health and long-term care as the population ages.
How many healthcare assistant jobs are remote?
About 1% of healthcare assistant openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most of those positions concentrated in care coordination, telehealth patient support, and administrative scheduling roles rather than direct bedside care. The large majority of openings still require in-person work at a clinical facility or patient home.
How do you become a healthcare assistant?
Start by earning a high school diploma or GED, then complete a state-approved nursing assistant or patient care technician training program, which typically runs a few weeks and includes both classroom instruction and clinical hours. Pass your state's competency exam to earn your CNA or equivalent credential, obtain CPR certification, and apply to entry-level positions at hospitals, nursing homes, or home health agencies.
Can you get hired as a healthcare assistant with little or no experience?
Yes, many employers hire candidates with no paid healthcare experience if you hold a current CNA credential and CPR certification, since those programs include supervised clinical hours that count as hands-on training. Home health agencies, assisted living facilities, and long-term care centers tend to be the most open to new graduates. Volunteering at a hospital or hospice before applying strengthens your application significantly.
What does the healthcare assistant interview process look like?
Most employers conduct a phone screen focused on your certifications and availability, followed by one or two in-person interviews. The in-person stage typically includes a skills demonstration or scenario-based questions about patient safety, infection control, and handling difficult behavior. Some facilities also run a brief background check and drug screening before extending a conditional offer.
Where can I find and apply to healthcare assistant jobs?
You can find and apply to healthcare assistant jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search the listings to find roles that match your credentials, location, and preferred care setting, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
