Tips for Your Prosthetist Job Search
Tailor your resume to ABC codes
Most prosthetist job postings reference specific HCPCS coding competencies. List the device categories and L-codes you've worked with directly on your resume so hiring managers can quickly verify your clinical and billing experience matches their patient population.
Highlight your ABC or BOC credential
Lead your credentials section with your American Board for Certification or Board of Certification status, residency completion date, and any state-specific license numbers. Many applicant tracking systems filter candidates before a human ever reads your resume.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists prosthetist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter for residency-welcoming postings first
If you're newly credentialed, target postings that explicitly mention mentorship, residency supervision, or new-grad onboarding. Applying to mid-level postings requiring five or more years of independent practice before you're there wastes your strongest applications.
Prepare a patient outcome case for interviews
Prosthetics interviewers routinely ask you to walk through a complex fitting from evaluation to final delivery. Have one detailed case ready covering gait analysis findings, component selection rationale, and how you handled a fitting complication or alignment revision.
Negotiate continuing education support, not just pay
Manufacturer-specific training, conference allowances, and time off for recertification hours are meaningful parts of total compensation for prosthetists. Ask about these explicitly during offer discussions, since they directly affect your ability to stay current with device technology.
Prosthetist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most prosthetists?
The companies hiring the most prosthetists right now include Hanger, Sanford Health, and Hanger, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Minnesota, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Large national O&P networks and VA health system facilities consistently account for a substantial portion of active postings.
How many prosthetist jobs are remote?
About 0% of prosthetist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most clinical prosthetics work. Remote opportunities tend to cluster in telehealth patient consultations, prosthetic rehabilitation program coordination, and clinical education or training roles rather than direct patient fitting positions.
How do you become a prosthetist?
You become a prosthetist by completing a master's degree in prosthetics and orthotics from a program accredited by CAAHEP, followed by a structured residency in prosthetics under a credentialed supervisor. After residency, you sit for the American Board for Certification or Board of Certification credentialing exam and then obtain the state license required in the state where you plan to practice.
How do you get hired as a prosthetist with little experience?
Target postings at larger O&P practices, hospital-based programs, and VA facilities that explicitly offer mentorship structures or new-grad support, since these employers expect to invest in your development. Emphasize your residency case volume, the device categories you fitted independently, and any outcome data or patient satisfaction metrics you tracked during training to stand out against other newly credentialed candidates.
What does the prosthetist interview process look like?
Most prosthetist interviews include an initial phone or video screen with HR or a practice manager, followed by a clinical interview with a senior prosthetist or department director. Expect questions on your patient evaluation approach, component selection rationale, and how you handle alignment complications. Some employers add a practical component where you discuss a case from your residency in detail or demonstrate familiarity with their primary device lines.
Where can I find and apply to prosthetist jobs?
You can find and apply to prosthetist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Find roles that match your credential level, specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
