Tips for Finding J-1 Sponsorship Jobs in Arkansas
Target Arkansas's large hospital networks directly
UAMS Medical Center, Baptist Health, and Arkansas Children's Hospital are among the state's most active J-1 sponsors for physicians and clinical researchers. Applying directly through their physician recruitment portals puts you in front of the right hiring teams.
Check university exchange visitor programs in Fayetteville and Jonesboro
University of Arkansas and Arkansas State University maintain active J-1 programs for researchers and faculty. Reach out to their international offices directly, as many research and academic positions are filled through department-level postings rather than public job boards.
Understand which J-1 categories apply to your role
Arkansas employers most commonly sponsor under Research Scholar, Physician, and Intern categories. Confirming your category before applying helps you target compatible positions and avoid pursuing roles your program type doesn't cover.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for verified J-1 sponsorship roles
Finding employers who genuinely sponsor J-1 visas takes time. Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa type, so you can focus on Arkansas roles where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than guessing from job descriptions.
Identify your sponsor organization early in the process
In Arkansas, designated sponsor organizations include universities and hospital systems that issue DS-2019 forms. Knowing your prospective sponsor before accepting a role is essential, since the sponsor, not just the employer, carries legal responsibility for your exchange program.
Factor in the two-year home residency requirement if relevant
Many J-1 holders in Arkansas, particularly physicians and government-funded researchers, are subject to a two-year home residency requirement. If you plan to transition to another visa status afterward, confirm your waiver options with an immigration attorney before accepting an offer.

Fayetteville is the next most active market, anchored by the University of Arkansas and its affiliated research centers. Jonesboro also has notable activity through Arkansas State University and the NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital system.
What types of roles typically qualify for J-1 sponsorship in Arkansas?

For physician roles, medical staffing agencies that specialize in J-1 waiver placements can also surface positions not listed publicly.
Are there any Arkansas-specific considerations for J-1 sponsorship I should know about?
Arkansas participates in the Conrad 30 waiver program, which allows J-1 physicians subject to the two-year home residency requirement to apply for a waiver by committing to work in a federally designated underserved area. The Arkansas Department of Health administers this program, and slots are limited each year. If you're a physician on a J-1 and plan to stay in the U.S., researching Conrad 30 eligibility early is worth the time.
