Which companies in Illinois sponsor visas for data scientists?
Several large Illinois-headquartered employers have consistent histories of sponsoring work visas for data scientists, including Allstate, Morningstar, Zebra Technologies, United Airlines, and Baxter International. Chicago-based consulting firms such as Navigant and Outcome Health also appear in federal labor condition application disclosures. Healthcare systems including Northwestern Medicine and Rush University Medical Center sponsor data science roles tied to clinical analytics and research.
What visa types are most common for data scientist roles in Illinois?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for data scientist positions in Illinois, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as statistics, computer science, or mathematics. Candidates already in the U.S. on OPT or STEM OPT are frequently hired before employers initiate H-1B sponsorship. The O-1A is an option for candidates with documented exceptional achievements in the field.
Which cities in Illinois have the most data scientist visa sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the large majority of data scientist sponsorship activity in Illinois, particularly in the Loop, River North, and Fulton Market corridors where technology and financial services firms cluster. Evanston and Oak Brook see smaller but meaningful demand tied to Northwestern University affiliates and corporate headquarters respectively. Outside the Chicago metro, Peoria and Champaign-Urbana have limited sponsorship activity, mostly connected to university research roles.
How to find data scientist visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters data scientist roles in Illinois by visa sponsorship willingness, so you can avoid applying to positions that won't support your work authorization. The platform surfaces roles from employers with verified sponsorship histories in Illinois, which is especially useful for narrowing down Chicago-area opportunities across fintech, healthcare analytics, and enterprise technology without sorting through unsponsored listings.
Are there any Illinois-specific factors data scientists should know about visa sponsorship here?
Illinois employers filing H-1B Labor Condition Applications must pay the prevailing wage for the specific data scientist role and location, determined by the Department of Labor using Chicago-area wage surveys. University of Illinois and Northwestern alumni networks feed a notable share of sponsored data science hires in the state, so candidates connected to those institutions may find warmer employer relationships. Illinois has no state-level visa or work authorization program, so all sponsorship follows standard federal processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data scientist jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
