Which companies sponsor visas for embedded systems engineers in Michigan?
Michigan's largest visa sponsors for embedded systems engineers are concentrated in automotive and mobility technology. General Motors, Ford, Stellantis, Aptiv, Continental, Bosch, and Lear Corporation have established H-1B sponsorship histories based on Department of Labor disclosure data. Tier-1 automotive suppliers and defense contractors like L3Harris and BAE Systems also sponsor for firmware and real-time control system roles across the state.
Which visa types are most common for embedded systems engineer roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa for embedded systems engineers in Michigan, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates already holding TN status (Canadian or Mexican nationals) or O-1 visas for extraordinary ability may also find sponsorship pathways, depending on the employer and role structure.
Which cities in Michigan have the most embedded systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and the surrounding metro area, including Dearborn, Auburn Hills, Southfield, and Warren, account for the large majority of embedded systems engineering sponsorship activity in Michigan, driven by the automotive industry's dense supplier network. Ann Arbor is a secondary hub, particularly for autonomous vehicle and research-oriented roles linked to the University of Michigan and mobility startups like May Mobility.
How to find embedded systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles that offer visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to search embedded systems engineer positions in Michigan without sorting through companies that don't sponsor. The platform covers openings across automotive OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and defense contractors in the Detroit metro and Ann Arbor areas, which are the primary hiring regions for this role in the state.
Are there any Michigan-specific factors embedded systems engineers should know before pursuing sponsorship?
Michigan's embedded systems roles are heavily tied to automotive product cycles, so hiring often accelerates ahead of new vehicle platform launches. The state's engineering workforce has deep ties to the University of Michigan, Michigan Tech, and Michigan State, meaning competition for sponsorship roles can be significant among recent graduates. Employers here frequently require experience with automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, or Ethernet, and proficiency with AUTOSAR or MISRA C can meaningfully strengthen an application.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored embedded systems engineer jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
