Which companies sponsor visas for accountants in Nebraska?
The most active visa sponsors for accountants in Nebraska tend to be large corporations headquartered in Omaha, including Berkshire Hathaway subsidiaries, Union Pacific, and Mutual of Omaha. Regional offices of the Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG) in Omaha also have established H-1B sponsorship track records. Smaller regional firms sponsor less frequently, so targeting enterprise-level employers improves your chances considerably.
Which visa types are most common for accountant roles in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for accountants in Nebraska, as accounting roles requiring a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field generally qualify as specialty occupations. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may also qualify under the TN visa, which lists accountants as an eligible profession. Some candidates transition from F-1 OPT, particularly those coming through University of Nebraska programs.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most accountant sponsorship jobs?
Omaha is by far Nebraska's primary market for sponsored accountant positions, driven by its concentration of Fortune 500 companies and financial services firms. Lincoln is a secondary market, with demand tied to state government agencies, the University of Nebraska system, and a smaller but active private sector. Outside these two cities, sponsorship opportunities for accountants are limited given the predominantly smaller employer base in rural Nebraska.
How to find accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate filters accountant job listings specifically to employers who sponsor visas, saving you from sorting through postings that won't support international candidates. For Nebraska, focus your search on Omaha-based roles in financial services, insurance, and transportation sectors, where sponsorship is more common. Migrate Mate also provides context on visa types relevant to accounting roles, helping you identify which opportunities align with your current status.
Are there any Nebraska-specific considerations for accountants seeking visa sponsorship?
Nebraska follows federal Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, so sponsoring employers must pay wages meeting the DOL standard for accountants in the relevant metro area, with Omaha and Lincoln wages benchmarked separately. The University of Nebraska system has produced a pipeline of international accounting graduates who pursue OPT and then H-1B sponsorship locally. CPA licensure in Nebraska requires passing the Uniform CPA Exam, and foreign credential evaluations are often needed for internationally trained accountants.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored accountant jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
