Which companies sponsor visas for physicists in New Hampshire?
Defense contractors and advanced manufacturing firms are the primary sponsors of physics roles in New Hampshire. BAE Systems in Nashua has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for engineers and physicists in radar, electronics, and materials science. Research-focused institutions affiliated with Dartmouth College in Hanover also sponsor international researchers. Smaller semiconductor and photonics firms in the Nashua-Manchester corridor are additional sources of sponsorship.
Which visa types are most common for physics roles in New Hampshire?
The H-1B is the most common visa for physics positions in New Hampshire, covering roles in research, engineering, and applied sciences. Postdoctoral and academic research positions at Dartmouth or UNH may also be filled through J-1 exchange visitor visas. Physicists with extraordinary ability in their field sometimes pursue O-1 visas, particularly those with significant publication records or patents.
Which cities in New Hampshire have the most physics sponsorship jobs?
Nashua and Manchester together account for the largest share of physics-related sponsorship activity in New Hampshire, driven by defense contractors and advanced manufacturing companies concentrated in the southern tier. Hanover, home to Dartmouth College, is the state's primary academic hub for physics research. Portsmouth also has a smaller cluster of technology and defense-adjacent employers with sponsorship history.
How to find physics visa sponsorship jobs in New Hampshire?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters physics roles in New Hampshire by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you the effort of screening employers manually. Because physics roles in this state are concentrated among defense contractors and research institutions, filtering by employer type helps narrow results quickly. Migrate Mate surfaces active listings from sponsors with documented H-1B filing histories in the state.
What should international physicists know about working in New Hampshire specifically?
New Hampshire has no state income tax, which is a meaningful consideration when comparing compensation across states. Physics roles at defense contractors like BAE Systems frequently require security clearances, and most clearances are not available to non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents, which narrows the pool of sponsorable positions in that sector. University and private-sector research roles outside defense typically do not carry clearance requirements and are more accessible to international candidates on work visas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physics jobs in New Hampshire?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
