Which companies and institutions sponsor visas for physicists in Wyoming?
The University of Wyoming is the most consistent sponsor for physics roles, hiring researchers, postdoctoral associates, and faculty through H-1B visa petitions. Energy companies operating in the Powder River Basin and around Casper, particularly those with geophysics and reservoir physics teams, also file sponsorship petitions. Federal contractors supporting Wyoming's energy and environmental research programs represent a smaller but steady source of sponsorship activity.
Which visa types are most common for physics roles in Wyoming?
The H-1B is the most common visa for physics positions in Wyoming, particularly for university research and faculty roles where the specialty occupation standard is straightforward to meet. J-1 visas are widely used for postdoctoral researchers and visiting scientists at the University of Wyoming. O-1A petitions appear occasionally for physicists with an exceptional publication record or significant research distinctions.
Which cities in Wyoming have the most physics sponsorship jobs?
Laramie is the primary hub for physics sponsorship jobs in Wyoming, driven by the University of Wyoming and its affiliated research centers. Casper is the secondary market, with geophysics and applied physics roles tied to Wyoming's oil and gas industry. Cheyenne occasionally has openings through federal agency offices and energy regulatory bodies, though volume there is lower than in Laramie or Casper.
How to find physics visa sponsorship jobs in Wyoming?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find physics visa sponsorship jobs in Wyoming, with listings filtered specifically for employers that sponsor work visas. Because the Wyoming physics market is small and specialized, setting up alerts for new postings is useful. University of Wyoming department pages and affiliated research institute career portals are worth monitoring alongside Migrate Mate for roles that may not appear on general job platforms.
Are there any state-specific considerations for physics visa sponsorship in Wyoming?
Wyoming's physics job market is heavily tied to the University of Wyoming and the energy extraction industry, so most roles fall into either academic research or applied geophysics. The prevailing wage requirement under H-1B rules applies here as in all states, and Wyoming's academic salaries tend to reflect regional cost-of-living levels rather than coastal research market rates. Physicists with geophysics, seismology, or reservoir modeling backgrounds have the strongest alignment with Wyoming's dominant industry employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physics jobs in Wyoming?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
